Next 48hrs are crucial. Definitely too early, I would still argue it hasn't been that great of a start, but that can change if things remain quiet. We are getting to the point though where some thought is being put into the decision. Key guy(s) could (most likely will) still leave, but it'll feel more manageable. Not like they'll be an avalanche of guys.

IMO.

Week 1: Impact players / or those that will be going down a level (strictly wanting to play)

Week 2: "Mutual"- More depth guys, more program driven

Week 3: Very light (Christmas)

Week 4: Uptick. Impact players that were influenced by outside parties

Curious what others think. What's the magic # of impact players you can lose to the portal before it becomes detrimental to the following year? I always thought four. Not trending in the right direction.

Depends on the positions. The staff might have known about Antonio:

I vote we return to sanity. Leave NIL, but must sit out a year if you go.

@forksandspoons nice post! I thought Antonio walked. Went through the picture, the only non-Senior / GR / 5th in the picture was Antonio Bluiett. This picture is missing Bennett Walker, John Butsch, Xavier Leigh.

How many players will jump into the portal who know their chances at playing time will be low in 2026 and beyond? With a new coaching staff and new recruits coming to campus, it could push some guys out.

Always happens. Those aren’t the guys who have entered so far. I will put an * on Bluiett since he walked on Senior day.

Fleming gone. Now that one hurts.

A positive is this staff did very well in the portal in a short amount of time last year, so I trust these open spots will be used very well.

Unfortunately, you can only count on a year by year basis these days.

Would love to have him one more year at UND. Good luck to him, but I believe he’s making a mistake. Path is open for Deng Deng now and several other receivers (not currently on the roster) who want to make plays.

Need 2-3 big time new receivers, a running back, and another quarterback…

Transfer portal here we come …

Ouch, that sucks. We targeted him a lot and he had a great year, I guess that wasn't good enough for him. Lame.

Much like SS, Fleming will probably land an FBS spot with a dozen other players at their position and hardly see the field.  Hopefully whatever money they get makes up for being buried on the dept chart with decreased playing time.  Most of the kids that transfer out could be the guy at the FCS level instead of simply irrelevant at FBS.

This is going so much worse than I thought. Unfortunately, at a tipping point here. Being practical. You can only have so much turnover with impact players and expect to take a step forward. Too early in this process to be losing this much.

To be honest while these losses hurt, I’m not sure I see one outside of Seidel that cannot be replaced either in the portal or by who is already on the roster.

Agreed, but it’s also too early to make any judgement about next years roster. Once we see what we bring in from the portal it’ll be interesting to evaluate the roster.

Quick dollars versus playing time and getting the opportunity to play at the next level…

There’s no question that staying at UND for most players actually increases their likelihood of being drafted, despite what you might think.

Having to move to a new state, new program, new locker room, new staff, all for money, diminishes your likelihood of making it to the next level.

Sure you’ll play against a higher level of competition, but if you don’t succeed given all the extra stressors you’ve put on yourself with moving, then it was all for not.

To me it’s a no brainer that the successful players stay at UND, not only because fans want them to, but because it is better for the players themselves. Even if the kid makes $100k, or even $500k, that pales in comparison to being on an NFL or CFL (particularly NFL) roster for 1-2 years …

For some, especially those who get 7 figures, I get it; but for most this is a shot in the dark that will bite them.

Stay at UND. Get developed. Don’t be bought.

Nah… these guys are all replaceable.

Remember, a year ago at this time, everyone was hoping UND would just go .500.

We’re fine.

The foundation is being built. If these guys are about themselves, and not the process and the brotherhood, then let them leave. Don’t let the door hit you on the way out.

agreed....lose some...go get some....its a process everyone is doing...some better than others...eric!  (cough cough sather.....)

Correct. We should leave this in the closet.

This process is why I will not give one damn dime to UND or any other school. The whole damn NCAA athletic process is a sham. Let's just set up professional leagues and call it what it is. NFL, FBS, FCS, D2,D3 just like the Major league baseball teams do. Draft and sign kids out of HS and have them progress up thru the farm system. If they go take some classes along the way fine, but don't worry about getting an education or loyalty. It's all about the Benjamins in todays world anyway. It's no fun anymore being a fan.

Might be a bit dramatic
