The fact that people thought a team with 15 new guys would just roll through their schedule shows just how disconnected some people are.  I think 5x5 UND played better, which is why the dumb penalties were so disappointing.
Also, if I recall, people were upset with Berry because he kept changing the units around not allowing any chemistry to grow.  I like that Jackson had 3 freshmen forwards killing penalties, instead of bringing in the graduate transfer because of experience.
It’s amazing how a loss to a desperate rival, who didn’t manage a lot of offense, changed the overly optimistic view of the team after 3 wins to start the season.
David Carle isn’t quite so concerned about an early season loss or two, as long as they are moving forward.  Anyone remember how many goals Denver gave up early in the year when they won their last title, and how many total goals they gave up in the tourney?
This team will need to be that kind of team, where they can build into a quality team by the second half.  Hopefully they can do enough to be in the picture, as we saw how close some of Hakstol’s teams were to the bubble before making late season runs.

This, this, ALL THE THINGS THIS. I wish I could love this a second time.

Im not worried about them moving forward, given all the new faces but Saturday as a whole, did not look like a bunch of future pros on the ice.

I thought 74 in maroon was the only one to stand out.

Funny, isn’t it?  The Ledge may have been vacant Sunday morning, but there were people headed for the elevators.

I think Croal could produce on the 3rd line.

True, but then that 4th line mojo may take a hit.

At any rate, give Strinden a clipboard & have him take notes in the stands on Friday. Perfect opportunity to teach a lesson & give the young bull Klee a chance to show what he's got. But odds of that happening are low.

How many guys can travel?  Would think they would take both Laurila and Jubenvill on defense, but who knows.

Could not agree more. Not only does this team not have any full lines in tact from last season; they only have one line that even has two on it that have played together before this year (Croal and Littler). Funny that line is the one that showed chemistry the earliest. I like that DJ is letting them settle in a little bit and build some chemistry. That first weekend the 4th line carried them offensively, but by this weekend the Rickwood line looked to be building some chemistry.

I said before the Saturday game that the optimistic part of this team is that so far I really felt like they were winning games solely on grit and being hard to play against; they really hadn't been overly sharp yet chemistry-wise. That will get better as the season goes on, but being able to start 3-1 while they're still figuring it out gives me a lot of optimism for this group.

Don't know, but I would assume that teams are allowed to bring more than 1 extra player to account for a possible rash of injuries that may occur away from home.

I think you are right about the schedule the frustration is a lot of the same mistakes with Berry were seen this weekend. Fans wanted change and we are seeing more of the same.

Be more specific on what mistakes you perceived.

It's one game.
The first three games of the season, I would say they looked like a completely different team than the last few Berry years.  Better speed, better passing, more relentless on pucks & forechecking, etc.  Then they had one not as good game when the other team played their best defensive game of the season in a rivalry game.
Let's see how the boys respond on Friday and Saturday against Clarkson.  I'm guessing they'll look more like they did in the first 3 games of the season rather than the Sat UMN game.

I would say if Homer doesn’t give up those two goals to make it 3-1 and we pulled out a tie holding Minnesota to low shots, the vibe on this board is a lot different.  We were all over them after that goal that slipped through Homer’s legs, then Strathmann tried to hold it in and was forced to take a penalty on the other end, which compounded the situation.
i think it’s safe to say that unless we go undefeated the rest of the way, there will be some that point to every mistake the players make as proof that nothing has changed from the Berry era.

I’m not saying anything new but I’m going to sum up the overall feelings.
-The play on the ice Saturday was poor overall but there were still good things to build on.
-Strinden dragged us down with his bad game and it didn’t improve as the night went on.  Idk what needs to happen with him but this staff will make a calculated decision: if he’s in next Friday, I trust them, if he’s out next Friday, I trust them. I don’t think this will a Bubs mentality where upperclassmen get free passes all season long. I think he’ll play but will have a shorter leash. He’ll get instruction behind closed doors that we won’t know about and that’s ok. It’s a good reminder that we don’t see it all.

We are a very young team and still Managed to go 3-1 against 2 good teams this early on. We’ll see his next weekend goes but I’m very happy with our record at this stage in the young season.

This smells like a Hakstol team- struggle a bit while learning and then start going on long winning streaks in the 2nd half of the season.

Hope you are right...but I'm totally expecting them to win two games on the road against Clarkson. (no small feat) Expectations couldn't be higher for Sioux fans; we are spoiled and expect to win but I totally get that it takes time to build team chemistry.

I think everyone can come on non conference road trips. There are just roster restrictions on conference away game travel

It's on you if you're ignoring the first three games (plus one exhibition) and only recognizing the one stinker....

These three points.

You score on 1 or 2 of those PP chances earlier in the game and this game looks entirely different.
Homer will want back both those 2 goals.  And unfortunately those goals changed the entire game.

Work on that PP hard for Clarkson.

I still think this UND team is more talented and will go further this season than UMN.

100% agree with all points. My only add, the horrible ice quality. Just like blaming the refs, I hate it as an excuse, but, when you can see it during the game several times, it's a factor. Especially on scoring opportunities. One clear example, 5 minutes into the 3rd, it's still 2-1 game, DJ/Jets & the Bubble Bros. (trying out line names 😉) are in the zone for a solid 60-90 seconds, crowd is fired up & cheering, Zellers takes a shot comes off the goalie's pads hard in the slot, just like previous games, but instead of Jets (#26) or Bubble 1 (#29) chipping in the rebound, puck bounces like a super ball & no quality shot.

Then they run out #8 & #21 and it's turnover city, Goofs score & we lose that momentum. Never recovered. I love physical hockey when done right. But when all they do is run around & try to kill guys, and don't end up with the puck, or worse with a ton of penalties, it's just stupid & it costs us the game. My 2 cents, more of line 1 and 2, less of 3 and 4.

Here's a blast from the past to occupy Friday night's for the boys:

It would behoove Jackson to walk the talk & enforce some accountability with the team; perhaps by benching Strinden. If there are no consequences, no lessons are learned & it sends a signal that the coach won't punish bad play. Avoid being a paper tiger. Good opportunity for Klee to see what he can do.

This. This is exactly what I want to see as a change that would validate the change. Everyone should see the consequences for that game of absolute crap by Strinden.  I like him, he will be back but, after that game, 21 watching a charter fly off from the tarmac would send the absolute perfect message.
