NDSU obligated to INCREASE football spending

Everyone is drinking the Fargo ag college Kool-aid. Of course, I hope they fail.

The proposed funding model and the required funding increase to ag college football (per their contract with the MW) along with the inevitable pressure it will put on state taxpayers (who don’t care about ag college) is the most b*llshit part of this. Biggest arrogant f*cks around come out of Fargo ag football …

But UND needs to make it hard on them and focus on themselves; keep winning on and off the field, and Schmidt’s group most certainly will …

A couple bad games from unproven Nathan Hayes…

Why do we need to try and make it hard on them??  What are we going to do?  Who cares what they do.

They have to double their football budget and then even more if they have losing seasons.  This deal is so stupid.  Enrollment at NDSU will continue to dwindle as the costs increase.

Got to listen to the Governor speak earlier this week; my summary of his words:

- ag and oil revenues are down
- everything is on the table to look at
- expect broad and significant budget cuts

Been a long time since I responded to anything on this message board.  Do you think with talk of a few Mountain West teams leaving in a few years for the PAC, that openings for more FCS schools will happen.  If the MWC loses 3 teams, they could add 5 or 7 new schools over time and create a football conference for the top of Big Sky/MVFC football schools.  UND, IMO, has a great young coach and will make a run at the MVFC title this year as long as the coach is there.  I can see several of these schools talking within, on the possibility of going FBS.  Some may already be deep into the discussion.

I think it is a possibility.
I think that the top Big Sky/Summit(MVFC) teams are already in conversations on future landscape (see the new scheduling alliance for MBB that just came out).
I don't know that what you're proposing would be well received under the current landscape (though I think it makes sense).

The P4 needs everyone else to finish paying the share of the $2.8 billion NCAA lawsuit payments that they stuck them with before they are going to make their next move. However, once that happens, I think that is when you finally see the seismic shift that has been tossed around for quite a while and the P4 (or what's left of it) finally separate themselves. Can't remember exactly how that timeline would fit with the Grant of Rights for the MWC that would allow for the changes you mentioned.

At that point, I could realistically see a separate second division and the top portion of the FCS combining with the G6. But that window is probably 6-8 years out. The P4 isn't dumb, they stuck all the lower level schools with a huge chunk of the settlement bill and are going to keep them around at least long enough to get that paid off.

The board chair, Kevin Black, is most definitely an ndsu guy. The commissioner, Brent Sanford, is a UND grad, but he answers to the board.

I think the Grant of Rights expiration dates are early 2030's.  So, you could see announcements around spring/summer of 2029

FBS Conference Approx. Media Rights Expiration Key Grant-of-Rights End (Proxy)
ACC 2036 (ESPN deal) ~2036 (but softening ~2030-31)
Big Ten 2030 2030
Big 12 2031 2031
SEC 2034 2034
Pac-12 2031 2031
AAC ~2031* ~2031*
Mountain West ~2032* ~2032*
Sun Belt ~2030* ~2030*

Continue to grow the following for UND football. Only so many supporters. Continue to recruit North Dakota and the Midwest and win recruiting battles.

Ag college failure puts more pressure on them to rely on taxpayer dollars, which they may be set up to get by with for now, but not indefinitely- their arrogance will eventually blow up in their face when students and taxpayers (and eventually the conference) have had enough.

Who knows, maybe we’ll all be friends and follow this move with others to FBS as others have said. And it will all be fine …

Time will tell, but ignoring NDSU as you suggest isn’t an option … there’s major interplay here in the small state of North Dakota.

not ignore...just kick em out.

Not saying ignore but stop obsessing over this.  We just need to focus on what is best for us.

For me it’s not the school only it’s also Fargo they are using The school to grow there Fm metro area on tax payers dime and in process consolidating power at expense of other regions in the state. The ag school was created to educate and improve agriculture through whole state but in my lifetime this hasn’t grown but has been concentrated in Fargo serving more agri-business that has concentrated in Fargo then rest of state. UND has also done some of that as well but they also had programs in there various fields to get professional staying in North Dakota like rural medicine initiative, majority of lawyers from the law school, and now aviation teaming with air force bases, defense, contractors, and getting planes being built here in North Dakota, and finally also working with oil industry  develop people to stay work here in the state. These initiatives have been spread out through whole state su have research centers around the state but they have not grown since there inception back in 1950 s the growth if anything been done on campus in Fargo. I am not saying NDSU done important things but in last 25 years concentration of efforts have been right in Fargo. They as university my opinion they needed to be out through North Dakota helping develop other value added businesses through out whole state working with various ag businesses to invest through out the state. This my opinion now like I said several of my posts investment now in football program is for very few businesses in Fargo and it will come at expense of tax payer dollars and students now into the future. If state law makers we’re going to spend this kind of money and this was all done by few behind close doors think how people and media it would be front center with a lot of tough questions. I may see other opinions on this but this my opinion.

I am not going to sugar coat it. Your posts are unreadable!  Even if you have valid points to make, your writing is 4th grade level at best.  Sorry, I cannot take it anymore!

The recruiting battles we need to win are against SDSU.

but fenton won't bc he's a skinny pussy

Why do you care so much? The hate and mental gymnastics all focused on revenge is off the charts.  Wow I would think you should direct all of that energy towards fixing why you havent been as successful as NDSU by a long shot.
