To be fair, Sutter is the one that introduced the concept of the team being a "family".

I’d say 99% of college teams in the country regardless of the sport or level call the team a “family” not sure why that keeps being brought up. Its honestly just used as a buzzword in recruiting and managing the team. Everyone says it some teams do it on different levels

This team averaged just 58.9 PPG and had an average scoring margin of -13.1 per game. To label this season as anything but disastrous and embarrassing would be disingenuous.

There is one question we all need to ask ourselves- Is the current coach who we want being the face of a program built on tradition and accountability?  He has a long ways to go.  Remember he was involved and in charge of the  recruiting for the past 2 years.  The players that entered the portal could have decided to stay after he was hired - so was he also part of the reason for leaving?

So was Paul Sather and he got an extension.

As a certain local columnist likes to say, "something that probably won't happen but if it does I'll look like a genius":

If most of the younger players who played major minutes enter the portal and this becomes even more of a rebuilding job than it already is, and if it's true his UND contract is pretty short-term, Hutter will realize maybe division I isn't for him after all and will go back to his old Mayville State job, which just opened up last week after a one-win season by his successor.

For those suggesting getting rid of Hutter already, how deep of a candidate pool would you expect to get to choose from for a new coach?Let’s see….program has been a huge disappointment for several years, and just gave the most recent coach one whole year before canning him.  Who in their right mind would want to walk into that situation?

He shouldn't be fired after one season, but I will admit that I am curious about the details of his contract, specifically its duration and the salary, which unfortunately was never reported in the Herald to the best of my knowledge. That is pretty unusual for the coach of a fairly high-profile UND sport.

This guy is texting incoming recruits parents and telling them not to come to UND, really! This guy sounds pissed that his daughter didn't get the time he thinks she deserved. Have you heard anything come out of Mayville State? I would have absolutely lost my mind with the turnovers per game that we averaged this year. This is college sports, coaches can be tough and sometimes the truth hurts.

This guy is ripping his offense? Maybe it was the players in his offense. Coach came into a tough situation because the previous coach. We haven't even seen everyone he is bringing in. Give him 3 years and see how it is going, but the culture needs to change over at the Betty.

long term 3 year length contracts are mandatory releases for a public institutions sports program at the d1 level... the reason no contract has been disclosed is because their isnt one.. which would lead anyone that knows anyrhing to believe hes hired on an interim yearly bases and on the cheap as well as his staff... no coach in their right mind except this one accepts a wbb d1 coaching job without at least a 3 year contract gauranteed money... it isnt about performance for this AD its about saving money snd if this coach doesnt show much improvement by year 2 or 3 at least the university will have saved between a million to a million and a half dollars on this hire... any ad in the country would lick his chops to hire s head coach interimly with no gauranteed contract to rob funds from a program low on te totem pole to use that million on hockey and football he does care about... its not rocket science just simple math

If this guy is so damn smart name who he is a parent to

I obviously don't know but it could be a father or mother.

It is usually best to take parents complaints with a grain of salt, but........a number of our players have parents who played and/or coached at a very high level so there is a non-zero chance that they know what they are talking about.

Just take all the guess work out of this so you can figure out why this person is pissed, did the player not play, not play enough, have their feelings hurt, start and then got benched , name who you are

I have no idea what this coach is like but when people get personal about looks, hygiene, personality something happened somehow or somewhere.

all I know is he had a good record at Mayville and he beat Malls team so he must have some coaching abilities

this is getting to sound like days of our lives soap opera

Ok I solved the mystery. Hutter is working pro bono.
“That’s what makes this so difficult.”

Are you kidding?  Now Mayville State is our new standard. The question is about coaching and being able to make adjustments during the season, being able to evaluate and recruit (transfer portal), and creating an atmosphere for success.  Quit talking about family and get back to establishing tradition which has been nonexistent since 2012.

What adjustments do you think he should have made during the season? Play the girl that shot 10% from the field more was thrown out there but something tells me that wasn’t the solution either

If 'name who you are' was the standard and was applied to everyone that posts on here a lot of big thoughts and big talk would disappear quickly.
