He has sounded rough this season, and definitely been slipping for a few seasons now

Gonna be tough when he's no longer calling games, he's been doing it longer than I've been alive(8 years longer to be exact) so I literally don't know anything else when it comes to UND Hockey on the radio.

Every great run comes to an end.  I think Mike Lamoine (a salt of the earth guy btw) does a great job helping Tim in the booth for the home games and Looker on the road.  Tim really appreciated Mike getting Tim's son in the booth last year, that was a nice moment.

I'm guessing the plan is for Looker to be the heir apparent in the booth and a new person comes along to do the PA at the Ralph.

Scouts coming out to check out Verhoeff:

At least 32 NHL scouts or executives attended Friday night's North Dakota-Minnesota rivalry game in Ralph Engelstad Arena.

Twenty-three attended Saturday's series finale.

The main attraction: UND freshman defenseman Keaton Verhoeff.

Quote

"I think the more you play, the more comfortable you get," Verhoeff said. "For me, it's kind of been getting used to the pace, getting used to the physicality. But I think I've been adapting well. I think every weekend, every game, I've been getting better as the game goes on and the weekend goes on."

While Penn State freshman winger Gavin McKenna is the presumed No. 1 overall pick, scouts from multiple NHL teams told the Herald they're watching to see if Verhoeff could challenge McKenna for that slot.

"GRAND FORKS, N.D. – North Dakota Athletics announced a pair of updates to upcoming hockey broadcasts on Thursday morning ahead of the program's weekend series at Clarkson.

Beginning on Friday night, road hockey radio play-by-play duties will be handled by Darrin Looker for the foreseeable future. Looker has served as the road radio color commentator since the 2022-23 season and the public address voice for home games at Ralph Engelstad Arena since 2005-06.

Longtime broadcaster Tim Hennessy, who is in his 46th year on the mic for UND hockey, will remain on the call for all UND home hockey games alongside Mike LaMoine."

Sending my best wishes to TH.  Getting to that stage in his life where health has to be the priority for him as he's not getting any younger.

Posted a number of times before, but he and O'Keefe together years ago was the best that college hockey will ever have.  They fed so well off of each other, and the games were beautifully narrated with inciteful color commentary.  O'Keefe was pretty heavy homer with his green glasses on, but to be expected from most crews.

Agreed. O keefe was our woog!

does this mean no road color guy now?

Yeah, sounds like Looker will be by himself on the road.

For us "experienced" fans, Doug Tegmeier was the best. This goes way back before most of you were born.

I suppose I started listening to sports in the early 60s, but not so much Sioux hockey, so he is unfamiliar to me.   That said, it is difficult to describe to young fans how important radio play-by-play was to us oldies who did not grow up with streaming video or even cable.   Those guys (rarely women) were our eyes and ears both.

Tim O'Keefe and Dan Hammer for the ND State HS Hockey tourney was the best.

I’ll take Dean Wilson with Tim over Hammer all day long
