Would not surprise me at all. I had heard something similar when Bump became available where they really didn't make any effort because they were full. Sometimes you have to have the tough conversation with a 5th year senior who hasn't been real productive in order to make the program better, felt too much loyalty at times when production wasn't there.

I will just add that I have heard way too many stories about recruiting screw ups that took place in the last couple years.

They didn’t screw up any recruiting because they didn’t recruit under Berry. Just tried to let the Ralph speak for itself and hope players would fall in love

Reminds me of some of the things I heard near the end of Gino’s tenure.  Recruiting is a multi-faceted endeavor in that you need everybody, including the current players selling the place.  

Heard in the latter days of Gino, that the players weren’t doing that, and recruits didn’t feel very welcome.  That, and the loss of passion that just naturally diminishes when you have gone through that grind for so many years, and they didn’t have as many built in recruiting opportunities like the elite league where the best talent comes together.  

Need all facets of our recruiting to come back together, and having a younger guy like Chyzyk will certainly pay dividends.

Also, Western Michigan had 3 goalies on their roster before they Hampton on. If we really wanted someone, we could make room.

WMU was willing to have the tough conversations.

A couple were quite evident with Stephen Halliday and Scott Morrow.  Don’t know how the Halliday thing went down, but he had been committed for years, then not.

 I don’t care about the timing of the Rizzo decommitment, when you have been through thick and thin with a recruit with multiple injuries for years, you would think you would be on top of his decision to move a different direction, because your relationship through the injuries should have created a bond, unless the constant communication wasn’t there.  

In today’s game besides being out there being visible to prospective recruits, you have to be in constant communication with your current recruits, showing them you care and are excited for what they will bring to the program, all the while informing them of expectation of them before they reach campus and areas they need to improve before coming in.  If we were lax on the prospective recruits, were we also lax on communication with current recruits?

I think we were lax on a lot of things, which explains why we are hiring a new coaching staff while Denver is playing in another Frozen Four.

Jackson certainly has his work cut out for him.

Reminds me of the final years/days of Eaves at Wisconsin. IIRC, Brock Boeser (whose mom is from Wisconsin, grew up a Badgers fan because his cousin Dan played for the Badgers) decommitted from Wisconsin because Eaves & staff didn't realize Boeser was on the Waterloo Black Hawks in 2014-15 (he had been with the Sioux City Musketeers for 8 games in 2013-14) so when Waterloo played in Madison against the Madison Capitols, Eaves and staff were nowhere to be found, Boeser was beyond pissed.

I was of the understanding that this was when they decided to go to Western when Brad could of brought them in. By that time Grant had probably proven to be better then some players on our team. Not a star by any means.

On the most recent Bruce Ciskie show, Matt Wellens downplayed the loss of Menghini saying he scored most of his goals last fall against Stonehill, UND, and Miami. The implication being, he padded his stats against average teams. At least that’s how I interpreted it.

On the flipside, Menghini could be a bigger loss for UMD than he expects...he led the team in +/- both his FR and SO seasons.
He was their best 200ft forward that can also score goals.  I think he'll fit in quite nicely at UND.

Seriously, in reading Schlossman’s article, seeing all the pictures of Menghini as a kid decked out in Sioux gear and his quotes about being a life long fan, just makes you wonder why Berry passed on him the first time around.
