I think this team can still compete --and win-- in the NCHC and nationally.
They just need a team that can buy into the team and play together as a cohesive unit.  This past years UND team certainly lacked both of those.

Look at a team like WMU.  They had Bump and Hampton essentially as "studs".  PSU?  Other than Fink, I can't name a single player on Penn State's team.
Yet both those teams made the F4 this year.  These schools that load up on first round players are fun to watch for sure, but none of them have won a title in the last decade +.  I'm sure Boisvert will have a fine season in Boston next year, but odds are that he won't win a title there and then he'll sign next year at this time.

Jackson has some work cut out for him this offseason, for sure.  But I'm still interested to see the product that he puts on the ice next fall...if they can play better under him than they did for Berry the last few years.

That's a good perspective.....much better than the Chicken Little hand-wringing from certain others on here today.

The "studs" will be around two years tops. And as we all know, young players have to adjust to the college game and are inconsistent until they do that. So building a team of them doesn't necessarily result in titles.

Yes, and those donors are especially interested in football and to a lesser extent basketball. NIL in college hockey just doesn't dole out much cash. UND has very rich alumni who are very well connected to other rich alumni and I would argue that this isn't about NIL but rather locker room issues that will be sorted out soon enough.

UND will be back folks, and if you bet otherwise, well a fool and his money are soon parted....

It’s time to quit complaining about nil $$. Und either wants to compete or they dont. Thus far, it doesnt seem like they’re in any hurry. Locker room issues? NIL is the here and now. Our hockey program better change with the times. If not, we’ll be watching bottom tier talent. Jax might get max production out of them. Dont think these players will win us nattys tho.  Go sioux!

We do need to get serious about NIL. I won't argue that point.

i think what's gonna happen here is this is gonna be seen by players as a wage gap, "this guys making this much why am I not" and they just leave" The high ground UND should take is to get rid of compensation and just be like "if you wanna play for us you're playing for the pride and tradition"

Not sure how it works at other schools....but for what it is worth, part of the NIL collective agreements at UND requires players to sign an NDA as to what they are receiving. Violating that voids the contract. Great in theory (and so far in practice, though admittedly new), but remains to be seen the long-term effects.

On the football side, where there is obviously a disparity between some players it is not an issue nor is it even discussed. However numbers are likely fairly small compared to the large NCAA schools and numbers out there. Different space and competition than hockey but I who knows what the true numbers out there actually are on that side.

I suggest listening to this podcast if you haven't.

We probably need to up our game.

"The college landscape has changed, Jordo," Ausmus said. "The Gopher's first line this year cost them 225k or something like that, that's a rumor that I heard. Our first line cost 12k, and some free Deeks pizza on Saturday nights. What are we ranking right now in NIL money compared to these other schools? It ain't near the top 10 or 15. There might be like 10 to 15 teams spending more money than us. Do we expect to be better than them? I know we got a huge tradition and culture at North Dakota, and it's a great place to play, but at the end of the day, we've got to figure that out."

I stuck another quote in yesterday's post

That press conference just got a bit more interesting too with the announcements made today.

Dont expect too much from jackson at this press conference. We’ll all be disappointed. Sure, he wants to fireup the fan base. The only thing that’ll really ignite the sioux fans is winning and post season success. Go sioux

True, but he'll be a year older & the 20-25 goals he could reasonably be expected to score will be tough to replace.

Silver lining is that Jackson should have a locker room full of players who are fully invested in the team & it's leadership; not 4-5 guys who are just going through the motions.

Oh for sure.
He's a guy that UND could have built the entire offense around.

I know its a cliche but if money bought titles the Yankees would win every year, that being said we need to put the program in the best position to win and you can't do that if your not in the NCAA's or FF's

I think this is exactly right, but in a bad way. With NIL, UND is now a Western/Penn State type program, where we will never have elite talent and everything has to come together to make the frozen four, which will happen maybe once a decade like it does for all the second-tier programs. The only teams that habitually make the frozen four (BC, BU, Denver, Mich, and MN) now are only going to make it more often when a player like Boisvert is their third line center.

To those still denying NIL's impact or even its existence in hockey-do you think Ausmus and Schloss and everyone plugged in to college hockey is making all these numbers up?

I was mainly just talking about next season in my response.
Going forward past that...yes for sure, we will definitely need a much larger presence in the NIL landscape.

How is everyone doing here? I just thought I would come check to see if it was as bad as our little community on GPL.

BTW... Cannot wait to be at The Ralph this fall. We had a great time last time we visited. The staff is always so accommodating and most if the fans are great too. Makes me really look forward to another trip.

Man, stop being nice. I'm not in the mood to be happy 😉

I would rather stick a pen in my ears than listen to J. Schmaltz.  I feel dumber and dumber every time I hear him speak.

Spending so much time with his sidekick HeatDaddy will do that to a person

just like how a school has an endowment...

is it time for a UND trackable NLI endowment for all sports that grows in real time and shows what % each year will come out of it and at what % for each sport.

instead of the smoke and mirrors and free cheesy pickles routine....

KEM drops 10 million or more than call zach, sanderson, commie. jimmy k...phil jackson..mr mean @iramurphy @gfhockey....bubba (yes that bubba)....and see what it can grow to NOW

I noticed you're not on your list...
