It's not everyday you have a friend who you met in college and also enjoys talking sports on this website.

Eric Groves was one of those people. 

Excited to move back to the area and start attending more UND events in person.

Sadly that didn't last long. 

He passed at the young age of 39.

Eric and I met up a few times whenever UND came out to Colorado and were usually the first folks tailgating for football games at UNC.

Was a helluva guy and one of a kind. Had just moved back to Fargo and was excited to get season tickets and attend more UND events in person instead of from afar. Will be missed by many.

I met him randomly when D2 UND traveled to IAA Northern Iowa with Dale Lennon and won.

I, and another member here, hit it off with a few people in the stands....we all got drinks together after the game to celebrate.

I asked if they ever go on SiouxSports....we exchanged names and shared a laugh like we all knew each other already!

From this moment we shared a lifelong bond.

Reflecting on these souls and their all too brief time here with us, I can't help but think about the sense of community that sports (and in these cases a message board around college sports) creates.  For those of us who have been around here for decades, these losses are not random names or pictures on the internet, but people we've engaged with passionately and often times met randomly in real life on our escapades.  God Speed siouxsports friends...be sure to let us know if indeed in heaven there is no beer.
