The top team in the land visits the Ralph. Denver @ UND

Denver literally toyed with them. Zeev is almost as good as Sanderson it seems like. this team absolutely sucks. We’re back to 2018. Tournament isn’t happening and our strength is “depth” aka this is just a !@#!$ team. If I’m wrong who is the game breaker

Sure, but that blunder off the dot, led to a 2 on 1.

How could a person watch these games and think that there’s a net gain here. Siouxwhatever is gonna say I’m a Debby downer and he’s right but this team is not a step away from putting it all together they are on home ice getting swept by a denver team that is more talented and works harder. “at the end of the day” being unable to do anything about zeev buium skating laps in your end means you just suck

Carle is a super recruiter. Gets a couple blue chips each year and back fills with great over agers. Just got Berchild and I’ve heard he’s about to get another MN gem. He’s on a roll…just need some NHL squad to scoop him up sooner rather than later.

And their recruiting has really taken an uptick capitalizing on these most recent national championships. This is/was the most frustrating thing for me after our natty in 2016. Instead of building of the momentum of finally getting the monkey off our back we followed it up with 2 of the worst recruiting classes maybe ever at UND.

Plus he’s the WJC coach…that helps big time

Everything flows from the coach. Carle is in a league of his own. If he were coaching UND's current team, there's a high likelihood that he would put a lot better product on the ice, because he gets the most out of his players. Whereas Berry does the usual Berry stuff in a Berry kind of way. Carle's building a dynasty at Denver, & UND is currently unable to stop him.

To a certain extent maybe the game has passed Berry by.  He wants to develop these kids into NHL type players but the problem is that he is trying to make them late 90s early 2000 type players not 2024 NHL players.

But we can't expect that kind of success here because the NCAA tournament is "one and done" and it's all about "luck". (sarcasm) :silly:

Cripes, our program is sinking into the black hole of low expectations and even worse results. I am sick of playing second and third fiddle to other teams in the national college hockey scene. This should not be a problem here. Ever.

We seem to get good recruits but don’t develop them , Boisvert, Swanson were big time players in the USHL but seem average in Berrys system , I have said many times UND where good players come to play worse. Compare Denver or Minnesota to UND and styles they play ? Also look at results and NCAA results. Berry for whatever reason will not or cannot adapt but dang is he a nice guy. #culture

I don't know Dan, but my default is that everyone is a nice guy until proven otherwise. It is a costly way of thinking but it's the way I choose to be.

Carle don't need no transfers!

We'll have to look into the math on that one.

Denver picked up two transfers in the portal this year, Eric Pohlkamp and Samu Salminen. Both have made a meaningful contribution. Pohlkamp (defenseman) came from Bemidji State, where he was the top player and a top CCHA star. He was drafted by the San Jose Sharks in 2023. Pohlkamp connected with David Carle as a member of the World Junior Championship team that Carle coached. Salminen (forward) transferred from Connecticut and is a Junior. He was drafted by the New Jersey Devils in 2021. Salminen had some history with Denver as a commitment that for some reason didn’t work out for him as a freshman.

Denver does seek transfers, just not as many as some teams.

I read here that UND fans are upset and worried, but I wouldn’t count them out as of yet.  Full disclosure, I grew up near GF and now live in Denver and am a diehard DU fan. Growing up I was a Sioux fan of course. So, some mixed allegiances.
October to December is less about wins than it is growth and coming together as a team. Denver started slow last season and also in 21-22 seasons when they won the championship.
What matters is tournament time. That’s where the wins absolutely matter. Your team could very well get its act together and surprise the naysayers.
I do have to agree with those who are critical of Berry. Sometimes teams just need a fresh start, a new face and approach.

We are experiencing the late 80’s and early 90’s all over. The difference is, we have a fancy arena that makes the crap on the ice acceptable to watch.

The only way Berry is replaced as HC is if he leaves or retires. The AD doesn’t have the balls to do it and Berry had Kris Engelstad in his corner.

Does it matter??

It was just unfortunate his stick broke but it happens.  Simply was curious if he skated off or picked up a new stick on the fly to try get back into the play.  Yes, in hindsight he probably should have just tried to slow down one of the DU guys on the rush.

Could it be it's the natural forward thing to do when breaking a stick is go get a new one? Happens all the time. Forward mentality go get a new stick,  there should be 2 defenders behind me.  Oops, I am one of those defenders.  I can see this as a real possibility.

It probably is one of the cons too playing a forward as defender.

Maybe KEM can use Brad as a coach elsewhere, her on board makes changes much more easily navigated.

I look at it differently. The resources available make a crap product less tolerable, not more. There is no excuse for underachieving with the resources available here.

Probably but the main issue was McLaughlin pushing the puck away from goalie when tried to cover it. Berry quote in herald today.

“if you let TJ stop and cover it, and us identify the guy coming from behind and dig into him, he doesn’t get a stick on it,” Berry said.  “It’s just basic hockey.”

Sums it up. Berry could very conceivably be the HC for another 5-10 years, which would put him close to 70 yo. God forbid it drags out that long. It's possible, Berenson stayed with MI until he was 77. Never heard of an average coach voluntarily stepping down, they usually have to be canned.

Not sure he is average. Maybe they will sacrifice an assistant again.
