Under terms of the NC$$ settlement, UND is to take action to preserve all trademarks and other Fighting Sioux logos.

What better way than to have One Last Shift be with the original jersey?  (Harms no one, historically accurate... )

I assume they just do the current jersey because they already have those ready. Probably would take more planning to get the original jersey with the historically accurate logo.

It's not like UND couldn't make a home and road jersey of the team the player was a part of with a commemorative patch on the shoulder. Have 15,000 made to be sold (each color) with the players name and number and commemorative patch on it. The money made could go to the player or a charity of their choice. Could even have the current team also wear that era jersey as a "one off" and auction them off, and the money could be used for NIL. Win, Win, Win, Win.

If the NCAA wanted to sue take them to court, they basically lose every case now a days.

Johnson out longterm with injury, so UND adds a new goalie to roster:

Aleksi Huson, who played three seasons at Shakopee High School, officially joined the Fighting Hawks on Monday and practiced for the first time.

Huson is Shakopee's all-time wins and saves leader.

Last season, he served as Shakopee's captain, while posting a 20-5-1 record with a .934 save percentage and a 2.13 goals-against average. He was named the school's male athlete of the year.

Huson signed a tender to play junior hockey with Idaho Falls of the NCDC in the spring, but opted to go to college at UND instead.

The 6-foot-2 netminder played a couple of games on UND's club team this season.

Huson is an Aerospace Engineering major and will wear No. 33.

He got called up from the club team!  Sweet.

It’s early…but in looking at our schedule, we may be in a bit of trouble to make the tourney

At least a split against Cornell would have helped, for sure.
Providence continues to win, which helps since we are their only loss.
Can't afford slip-ups against RMU or BSU.
A win or two against DU in the four we play against them would be big.

Splits against DU are a must.

College athletes don't surprise me anymore. Last year we started out great & fizzled out at the end. This year the guys have a major issue with being consistent and are below .500; but they could always turn it around & have a solid year. It's been done before. The next 4 games against UMD & DU should tell us all we need to know about this team. If they still can't find consistency after 11 games, this season is probably a wash.

Any feedback on Andrew's play on Saturday would be nice. Jamernik was commenting after Saturday's game that Andrew is a very good player & that it's amazing he isn't a regular. (don't know if Jamernik was just being complimentary because it was his first game or if he is actually pretty good)

I'm a fan! I don't know Aleksi but his brother is one of the coaches for my son's AAA team, and seems like a great guy. Shakopee (not our association) is doing some great things and I can't speak highly enough about their head coach (Calvin Simon) and his approach to the game and players. Not sure if Huson can work his way into playing time or will be strictly slotted as the 3rd man, but I guess we will see.

This has nothing to do with the team’s product on the ice. But I’ve gotta say that our team has some real duds when it comes to being interviewed by the media (they are hockey players and not news anchors, so they are forgiven). But Monty was great at the media day interviews today. He can deliver his message, is comfortable at the podium, has a sense of humor, doesn’t stumble constantly or say the same thing over and over, and is honest. I think Jammer is a good interviewee as well but Monty getting more games in might mean better interview options for the media team :p

Article on Monty moving back to D:

Montgomery returned last year and was in-and-out of the lineup as a forward. Now, he's playing defense as a senior — and he might be there longterm. UND has officially changed his position to defense on the team roster.

Maybe reading too much into that, but wonder if that has anything to do with the length of time that other injured Dmen will be out.

No doubt. I wonder if they have any plans on bringing in Laurila in the 2nd semester.

Agreed. One, if not multiple, D is hurt long term im assuming. I would assume they are already planning to bring in Laurila.

Time to carry a 9th dman for future rosters. I feel like we run into this EVERY SINGLE SEASON

Seems reasonable to me. This is a reoccurring problem, seems easy enough to carry an extra D to help. Next season if no D leave, we’re at 9 anyway.

It’s easy to say that, but tough to implement. Reason being is you need to take a guy that doesn’t overly care about playing time.

Not the best news on Zmolek.

Quote

UND defenseman Bennett Zmolek is still dealing with a lower-body injury — and it appears he will not return any time soon.
Zmolek skated in Mankato, Minn., before UND's series against Minnesota State on Oct. 18-19, but was unable to play due to injury. He was listed as day-to-day at first, then week-to-week.

UND has started listing Zmolek as "out indefinitely." Zmolek, who hasn't played since the season-opening win over Providence in the U.S. Hockey Hall of Fame Game, is still speaking with doctors and specialists about how best to proceed and his recovery timeline.

UND's other injured defensemen — Andrew Strathmann and Tanner Komzak — are listed as week-to-week.

I could be misremembering, but has this really been an issue recently? This is completely different than losing someone right before the NCAA's (i.e. Pyke last year).

I'm a broken record, but keep it at 8, always. Moving forward though, I'd look at having that 15F being able to play D if needed.

It’s been an issue, yes. It happened last year, but it was more of a short term issue than it has been this year. It also happened in the Covid Pod, and the following season after that also. Basically every season in recent memory has had this issue. However like I mentioned this is the first time the injury concerns were not minor, short term injuries.
