Thats sad that they would publish it to social media. The pic, if it’s an isolated incident, is not good, but if, as alleged, happens frequently, then it’s an issue. I agree that it should have been given the Chaves or Armicoste and no one else. Bad publicity for the program.

It won’t be addressed, which is why a player or staff is posting pictures of the head coach sleeping during meetings. (Much like him chewing on his fingernails on the sideline during the game.) They don’t know what else they can do at this point. The players/staff love to play here and are not taking these things lightly. They all work too hard for this and deserve better. There is no longer a respect/drive to please him, just like he has no respect/drive to lead. Clearly.

If recruits see a grassfire and the issues like we are having now, we may not get the caliber of recruits we would like. Let’s say they have offers from UND and a team equivalent but see a larger number than normal of transfers out of UND, chances are they ain’t coming. It also takes away the chance for teammates to really gel when there is a lot of turnover. We may snag one or two diamonds in the rough, but that’s always questionable. We lose one class and some players leave. No big deal. We suck for one year but the guys that stay are the ride or die types and the culture is strengthened through that. There is not a player on the roster or verbally committed that the program can’t handle to lose. If that’s what’s best for the program even though it’s a tough pill to swallow it just is what it is. It took 2 season to fix shambles and be playoff caliber. And we are in a much better spot currently. I’m not worried about losing anyone.
SiouxFan100
All of this hurts. We all love UND and UND football and will continue to do so. Years go by and every year I expect THIS will be the year. I am not impressed with the napping pictures. Very bad and it might be the tip of the iceberg??? Do whatever it takes for this old guy to continue to enjoy UND football.

I had already felt bad enough for the players …now I feel worse for them after reading your posts. It truly feels like you have some insight into this program that seems very plausible and believable to go along with the recent pics. It’s bad enough for us fans to witness this train wreck but the players don’t deserve to have such an incompetent person that they have to call coach. They live this everyday! Man. What those pictures have shown/exposed is truly how selfish bubba is. He gives two shits because win or lose he is guaranteed for life. Most definitely feels like a county club atmosphere that surrounds the universities athletic programs. With the lack of winning results, frustrated fan base, frustrated players, frustrated alumni, never ending extensions and now pics showing a non involved non interested coach…..bubba and Chavez need to feel the heat! It’s almost like they are sticking their middle finger at us now. Sickening

I'm sure he does care, but that is not enough. The fact that a coach or player felt the need to leak this says something. I agree with Longtime Fan, I feel bad for the players too. They have 4-5 years of their life to play UND football and it's a big commitment, but your supposed leader is napping. I can't imagine any players taking Bubba too seriously at this point.

As a “head coach” if you’re sleeping or dosing off in a meeting what kind of message are you sending your players ? Not interested with your surroundings or simply don’t care….what else could it be? Hungover? There’s a place and time to take a nap ….and that place is most definitely not in a meeting with your players. Show some leadership ! If a player was sleeping in a meeting they would be lit up. If anyone of us fell asleep at a meeting at work how would that look ? Also…there is a reason why someone took this pic. If it was a singular moment most would let that pass. And yes…there are definitely more problems.

UND-FB-FAN
Winners win and losers lose. Culture is so important in football, and UND’s culture has been stale under Schweigert for years, and now over the past month or so, we’re seeing actual deterioration. iramurphy
I’m surprised how easy it was for so many to assume this is a photo of Bubba sleeping (it might be). I’m surprised how easy it was for so many to believe this is a team meeting (it might be). Considering how many derogatory referrals made regarding “cotton tops”, “white haired guys sitting on their fat wallets” and how we haven’t kept up with changes over time, no one seems to question the validity of the photo nor the accompanying narrative. I maybe made the assumption that most of you are more technically savvy than I and I believe that’s an accurate assumption. I looked at this and my initial reaction was similar. However, knowing how often photos show people we are photographing have their eyes closed for that split second gives me pause. Knowing how easy it is to photo shop people onto different backgrounds gives me pause. Knowing how easy it is to create advertising showing a person who has never been to NY on a corner of NY city with a stunning NY city background that doesn’t exist gives me pause. Put that together with posts by “long time follower but never previously posted” who claims inside information with allegations regarding how players and coaches feel, gives me pause. Lastly the photo when posted doesn’t actually say he was sleeping at a team meeting gives me pause. Before, some you waste time with misdirected comments, read closely what I posted so far. I’m not defending anyone. All I’m saying is this may be a photo with Bubba asleep at a team meeting, but it may not be. In today’s dysfunctional political climate the courts so far have protected the “satirical” websites that can post photos and statements that are false as long as they claim it’s satire. I would suggest that if you want change, focus on the lack of success on the field ( if we were undefeated or 8-1, no one would waste time with a photo that may or may not be accurate). What will eventually drive coaching changes ( you don’t need to repeat the rhetoric about not hiring DeBoer, multiple extensions, etc) will be the failure of the program to succeed. Unless we win out this season I don’t see us making the playoffs Deal with the issue at the end of the season. Just my opinion.

I’m withholding formal comment (meaning communication with UND leaders) until the season has concluded. The photos were only released (in my opinion) because of the lack of success. It does provide some context, however. The real issues here are the lack of an accountable, winning culture, as well as perhaps even the deterioration of it. That can be quantified as no playoff wins, an horrific road record, and a lack of head to head success against North Dakota State University I will say, though, to your point @iramurphy, much like the political season were currently in, if you have any strong opinions, I strongly encourage you to voice that with the University of North Dakota Athletic Director and the University of North Dakota President. Similar to voting, your voice matters, and it is not accounted for if kept silent.

You make a valid point about the photo - I think people are glomming on to it real or not because it appears to be a perfect visual metaphor for our leadership for many seasons now. As far as dealing with the issue at the end of the season - I am an alumni and lifelong fan who has season tickets for football and hockey and am a member of the Captain's Club. I have written Chaves with my concerns last year and again this year. I feel that I have absolutely no avenue to push for change - after my email to Chaves last year he promptly extended Bubba. Other than complaining on this site and writing the AD there appears to be no way to effect any changes. Clearly Chaves doesn't get it or doesn't want to. The total state of our Athletics is very mediocre and we as fans feel helpless. If the Good Old Boys Club is real I wish they would get it in gear.
