The post above was from March 6th.  What needed to be done was known at that time by anyone with decent critical thinking skills.  Unfortunately the second sentence above was not followed.  Instead of not getting information from the media and politicians and not panicking,  the media has been listened to and caused a colossal panic.

CA, which has outperformed Germany In terms of deaths/million, has the director of public health in LA county hinting a lockdown through July...

how does that make sense?  Don’t let kids play baseball or go to art camp or learn to ride horses...

Elderly and vulnerable stay home.  Sick or around someone who’s sick, stay home and/or get a test before interacting.

Makes zero sense. These past four months have shown the complete incompetence at every level of elected leadership on a national level.

I understand it's a right-wing talking point, but the "media" isn’t some all-encompassing entity that pushes a uniform agenda.

Half this country seeks out news from outlets that counter left-leaning news.  People hear what they want to hear.

Honest media has gone down the toilet.   There's a lot of money to be made from 'news information'.  Nowadays news outlets are business that cater to the wishes of their clients - they give people 'news' what they want to hear.  It's a big reason this country is so divided.

No doubt on the media.

In this situation I don’t see how there can be such a large divergence in opinion if we strictly looked at the actual numbers.  Every statement in Ira’s post have been proven to be 100% statistically accurate.

If this were an academic exercise and 10 people were given nothin but the actual statistics there is no way  they would propose shutting down the economy and place the current restriction across 95% of the country.

My mother in law made a great comment to my daughter.  We are currently hatching some butterflies...caterpillar, to pupae, to butterfly to free kinda deal.

one of the butterflies died.  My mother in law asked my daughter if that was sad.  My daughter said yes.  My mother in law responded, no honey, it’s not sad or happy, it’s nature.

Florida, like California, is lower than Germany in the deaths/million.  Florida is somewhat of a microcosm of the US.

A large percentage of the US deaths are in the Northeast... NY, NJ, PA and MA.

56% of the deaths in Florida are in 3 counties, Miami/Dade, Broward and Palm Beach.  Gov DeSantis, has for the most part allowed the counties to do what they see is best for their community.  Florida began Phase I of reopening, with the exception of the above counties.   There is no need for a national policy or statewide policies when the threat is not widespread.

When beaches opened in certain locations across the country, a segment of our society went nuts at how irresponsible it was.  The beaches here opened last week.  My family took advantage of it.  Fresh air, sunshine, exercise, etc.

What's not to understand?  This country is so divided that facts don't matter anymore for 80% of the population....no matter what the topic.    40% on each side will go down with the ship no matter what.

I alluded to this in a previous post - modern communication has broken us.   It allows people to be cocooned within their pre-existing worldview.  There's no common ground whatsoever anymore.  This nation is full-blown party over country on both sides....with the complete demonization of differing views.

Actually the blame is on us.  We're the consumers. We're choosing to consume this $hit and not look beyond our own biases.  Human nature I guess.  I hate to say it, but I think we've become too big and too diverse for a functioning democracy.

She said the economy would never die

Oh but it's just a cold
Wouldn't hurt her if she stayed at home, 'cause

You lose your sense of touch

I got the Wuhan flu
I got the Wuhan flu
'Cause when the chest is tight, vent's gonna run all night
I got the Wuhan flu

She's got a heart condition, death rates are up and down
Tried to get tested but got the runaround
COVID keeps this place a ghost town.
I know last night I heard a cough or two
Now there's no one left to make love to you

I got my face covered up
I can't go out too much

I got the Wuhan flu
Yeah I got the Wuhan flu
'Cause when the chest is tight, vent's gonna run all night
I got the Wuhan flu
Yeah I got the Wuhan flu
Oh when the chest is tight, vent's gonna run all night
I got the Wuhan flu

Another report, another two weeks burned
It's the distance keeps us insane
But when the data leads to wallow
We do it all again, all again, yah

I need antibodies
Antibodies not flu
Everybody needs antibodies, oh yeah

Hey what about you
We all need antibodies, hey

Apologies to Bryan Adams and his song “Somebody”.

A vastly under appreciated bass riff I must say (and I do, speaking as a guy who’s held a long neck for a few minutes or so).

Fargo parks will remain closed until at least 5/21. Forecast in a week is low 80s but completely unsafe for Johnny and Susie to go down a slide but they can go to summer school starting June 1.

Have you ever seen a President behave like he has?  He behaves like a petulant third grader.  If anything the media has done more to re-hab his image and normalize his behavior than they have called him out for the impropriety of his actions.   He's stolen more for himself than any president in history ( ie. the $100's of millions we spend at his golf clubs) and the stories on it are few and far between and he never gets a question on it.   He appoints unqualified and corrupt family members to run important government programs and the media doesn't question it.   A functional media would have torn him to shreds, but unfortunately that's not what we have at this time.

Fox News defends him and every other media outlet has it out for Trump. All you have to do is watch CNN or MSNBC and you will realize nothing Trump does flies under the radar and nothing good he does is ever reported. Let’s be real now.

Striping soccer fields but can’t open playgrounds.  Doesn’t make much sense.  I agree with you

Hahaha.....good one. We both know better than that. This process is about increasing big government with an eye on socialism.

Oh c’mon.  “Socialism” is just an anti-left buzzword.

9 out of the top 10 poorest US states are staunch Red ones.  These are the states with one hand in the air screaming “We hate socialism!”; the other hand squeezing the teat of the federal government for economic survival.   I mean, Christ almighty, MS, KY and LA rely on the feds for more than 40 percent of their revenue.  Welfare parasites.

Both the Left and Right love big government if it serves their purposes.

left is using government to legislate their failure. Sorry, but you don’t make a quarter plus, it’s because you are stupid, lazy, or untalented. No mercy boys..it’s win or lose...just like on the ice.

I have Trump’s wall to sell you if you think the Right does any different.

Speaking of building the Wall, how ironic that conservatives have little objection to taking massive amounts of people’s land nowadays.  And here I thought imminent domain was the antithesis of right-wing values.  Not anymore I suppose.  Hooray for big government control!!!!! Yeaa!!!!!

Both liberal and conservative politicians  -> opposite ends of the same bull$hit stick.

Oh. Bad parenting too.  Never a good sign.  Nope.  No siree.  No bueno.

Since Mafia Man (grammar guy) is already asleep.  It is eminent domain, not imminent domain.  :)
