Luke would be an interesting candidate.  He probably has broader FCS perspective than any others that have been mentioned.  He maybe has insight on how SDSU turned things around with Stig.   How SDSU went about trying to surpass NDSU.  He probably has insight on how the MVFC and Big Sky has evolved.  What is the approach at Idaho?  How is it different or the same from the other programs he has been apart of.  How has he evolved or adapted during his journey.

Big fan of Luke!!  He didn't apply, though.

Other than Baldwin, he actually is and was my favorite candidate, but doesn’t sound like he is being considered like Eric Schmidt (and I guess not applying will do that …)

My take on Luke: successful runs as offensive staff member at SDSU, knows UND and the Midwest, and as of late, he’s been doing very well as OC at Idaho. No head coaching experience, which is negative compared to Baldwin, but he’s a good recruiter and teacher, really a young innovative offensive mind in college football with the age and future prospects to look to move up and bring a program up to new heights on that journey upward.

We really don’t know who’s all applied except from what Tom has said, correct?

It’s really quite all over the place. That tends to mean that Chaves and the athletics department truthfully don’t know yet who they’re gonna hire. I’m quite confident they got a good pool of candidates… this is an attractive job with the new facilities…and opportunity to elevate over NDSU/SDSU and get an FBS coaching gig as a result as you’d be put on notice by ESPN, etc.

Rarely lines up that you have a head coach job open on the same year that brand new facilities are also gonna open …

100% agree.  I think the word on the street is that we have a dump fire going on with the program.

Speculation or what you have heard?

Outside of this years meltdown what part is the dumpster fire?  Facilities, conference, NIL?

perhaps some of the administration but stepping back does Bubba now having a voice in the department help that?

Will the new coach be able to compete successfully for recruits? It’s been so long since we have. I look forward to the day when we raise the level of talent. Hopefully this happens right out of gate.

wont be a Colorado type of makeover but things need to happen starting tomorrow to raise expectations and talent

I wouldn’t go down that rabbit hole with anyone.  Bubba is a non issue except for those who can’t let it go.
The fact is an FCS HC is a great stepping stone if you get the program turned around. The University, the campus and the new facilities are outstanding. If you are successful in the MVFC you can move up. UND admin is supportive.

I think the skies the limit if you get the right finisher (head coach). Not to harp on it, but I cannot image that being one of Bubba’s strengths.

To be fair to Bubba though, having FINISHED facilities is something he never had. They had one arm tied behind their back the entire time.

What street would that be?

Just an opinion of what I think would be someone's impression.  Football has been rough since Mussman began (16 years ago) as HC and hasn't really improved.  AD hires appear to be less than impressive and not really in control.  Other schools (SU's, and USD recently) have it figured out at the moment, and they continue to produce results.  We need to grab a coach on the rise and hopefully get a plan in place to replace him when FBS comes calling.  UND has great facilities and the money is there.
