I'm sure there was quite a bit of interest in this job and probably a fair amount of calls and discussions which weeded people out who weren't going to make it into the top three, so they never filled out a formal application.

I wouldn’t just hire someone who is confident … that’s not nearly enough to imply you’ll be a good or great DI head football coach.

I agree with this, but he has more to prove before becoming our HC. I mentioned it yesterday,  if Bubba stepped down last year and we hired the OC from Winona State to be our HC we all would hsve lost our sh*t over that.

I don’t believe he did. Didn’t seem to be calling the plays. Mostly involved in decisions about going for it on 3rd or 4th down, fake punt, onside kicks etc. May suggest or veto a call but if you watch him on sidelines it didn’t look like he was calling plays.

This. Bubba was a defensive coach. Look at offense under Rudy, the offense did a 180 when Danny was hired. Do we think Bubba all of the sudden said hey let's run a bunch of trick plays.  Then as soon as Danny left we stopped running trick plays? No, it's because he put the OC in full control of calling plays, as he should have done. Fruechte called the plays, including that 2 point conversion.

I would be happy with either Tibs or Smitty.  Very happy they would consider coming back and helping the school get back to top level again.  I hope the money is enough to cover and get and keep great coaches.

Young. High energy. Can relate to young athletes. Former professional athlete so knows what it takes to be successful and play at the highest level. Can recruit. Can motivate young men. Did well with not much this year (QB situation was on Bubba). Well liked by everyone. 
 

He’s a star in the making imo. The exact type of HC I’d want to play for. All of that is going to help us get the type of recruits that the other Dakotas get. Just my thoughts

Hey if Fruechte is hired, I will be all in on him. Just trying to understand the logic of the love for him.

If the qb situation was a bubba issue then I would be happy with fruechte.. if it was fruechte.. then I have very little interest in him even as OC.
