Who would UND hire?

It’s actually incredibly important they don’t release finalists. Doing that publicly just deters potential applicants from applying.

I realize simply looking away from those with UND ties has been frowned upon on here, but the more I think about it, I want someone hired with no ties. The past 15 years has overall been rough for UND considering what NDSU and SDSU has accomplished.

 

A winner with no ties to UND is preferred. Need new ideas, new philosophies, new blood.
 

That means no to Schmidt, Freund, and even Fruechte. I like Luke Schleusner but really that would count him out also.

They had their finalists last week if Chaves was working the phones like I think he was.

I understand that, wasn’t saying they should be. Was just saying that in response because it was fun to look back at when we hired Bubba

New ideas, and new philosophies evolve over time so I don’t believe Fruechte has been overly influenced by one year here. Along that line Schmidt and Schluesner have been  gone long enough with other programs such that their ideas, philosophy and style has been evolving while gone. 

The best coaches can flat out recruit and can coach. That is what we need regardless of UND connections. More importantly, is D1 experience, HC experience, and evidence of successes as their careers evolve.

I’m fine with Schmidt and Luke. Danny needs more time away.  I really like the Caruso scenario retaining Isaac.  I think the timing and resources in place make it a realistic possibility.  Hopefully he’s gone on to bigger things after 5-7 years and the success flywheel is spinning at that point.  Who do I think? Y’alls guess is as good as mine.
