You know, despite the score right now, I can't say that I'm all that encouraged by this game. There's a whole lot that needs to be corrected before facing better competition.

Agreed, special teams and d back play was awful tonight.

We look like !@#$. A decent team would have waxed us tonight. Hopefully a lot of guys build off of this game because what I saw so far tonight won’t win many games.

Noticed Odom late

Encouraging signs tonight: 
Ketteringham was rock solid. 
Our running backs are as good as always. 

Line started grinding better as the game went on, opened some holes, albeit against lower competition.

Pass protection looked pretty good overall. 

Defensive line and pass rush look good. Pretty much any pass longer than a 3 step drop was pressured. 

Punter looked like he's good enough to carry the load through the season. 

Rudolph used a screen pass and attacked vertically in the passing game. 

 

First impression discouraging things:
DB's do not look good, inability to defend the quick passing game. 
Offensive line looked shaky early against inferior competition. 

Drops, drops, drops. Too many dropped passes that hit the receiver in the hands. 

Kicking game issues. Young kicker unable to convert within 40 yards. 

Kickoff coverage was atrocious. 

Inability to get quality reps for younger guys or guys lower on the depth chart. This game should have been a blowout by half and two's/three's taking all reps by the start of the 4th. 

 

Obviously there are more things, but these stick out to me.

293 rush 225 passing, we should have had over 400 passing if not for the dropped balls. Our QB can easily bring up our passing to over take the rushing if needed

Lots of room for improvement all around.   QB play was most impressive IMO, but everything else, meh.

I heard Washington’s QB might be a Heisman candidate.

QB is better than we've had in a while. D-line and linebackers look like D1 players. DB's are in way over their heads. They are going to get torched the next couple weeks.

This post is going against the grain and will be completely optimistic:

• Definition of the tale of two halves, I thought overall once adjustments were made the second half UND looked good on both sides of the ball
• Ketteringham looked good
• WR's won't drop as many as they did tonight
• Like they did in the secondary, the kick off coverage was good in the 2nd half
• Solid pass coverage all game
• Running game picked up as the game went on

I get it, it was a bad first half, but once adjustments were made the game wasn't close. The opponent was terrible, but there are things that they can build on.

They go from Auburn to us.  If he lives through Auburn he better be ready for our DBs in their home opener.
