SWSiouxMN Posted March 11, 2015 Posted March 11, 2015 I don't follow the recruiting trail or high school ball closely at all, so if people are expecting the addition of Crandall and Seales to take this team from worst to first, they must be pretty outstanding. But it also makes me wonder if they are so outstanding, why they would choose a program that hasn't accomplished much of anything in well over a decade and when it is at its best it is playing .500 ball? Its going to need more than that. It will also hinge on Hooker stepping his game up another level and the development of Shields, Shanks and Cashman. All 3 need to make strides from this year to next Quote

Don't bet on that with Jones around. What you see is what you'll get out of the players next season. That's why I agree that the new players (Seales and Crandall) will have to make the entire difference. UND MBB is in a bad spot with Jones as HC. Quote
GDPritch Posted March 11, 2015 Posted March 11, 2015 Cashman will not just be a tole player. He might even fight Shanks for a starting spot of Shanks can't get his head on straight. Down the stretch Cashman was playing much better than Shanks and is only an inch or two shorter.I agree with you on that point. I noticed that the last 2 - 3 weeks. Cashman was the better player although a small sample size. Quote

I think its safe to say Hooker has improved from last year. Crandall can be a true point guard or he can get you twenty, can do both if he has to, will be interesting to see what role he is in. Seales is a great scorer, lots of left hand, but I havent seen anyone shut him down yet. Crandall and Hooker come from championship programs and know how to win. The other young guys also compete at a high level, some also winning state. I believe these guys will bring an expectation to win to the program and a practice regimen that will necessitate players get better or fall off. Shields showed flashes this year, but he needs to get stronger to get better defensively. you can see that from all the young bigs. Cashman looks promising, and Shanks seems to have the same issue as Shields. Nutrition and weight room, All these guys better be living in there this summer. Josh Collins brings some size already and he is adept at doing the dirty work; a fantastic rebounder and finds ways to be disruptive defensively. It could be a real athletic three guard lineup, or switch it up with Crandall at the 1, and have a big lineup starting at 6'3" and up. 1 Quote
Kab Posted March 11, 2015 Posted March 11, 2015 It will take rebounding Free throws and heart which we lack in all three Our bigs are small And lastly not jones Quote

Cratter Posted March 11, 2015 Posted March 11, 2015 By "Big" they mean UND... Too often, the coaches with the big jobs look good in a suit, smile nice for the camera and either played for or assisted under a famous coach. But they can't coach their way out of a paper bag. Getting a big school job is about who you know, not what you know, and it is costing some schools, and not just in Armani clothing budgets. Quote

Oxbow6 Posted March 11, 2015 Posted March 11, 2015 SU heading back to the Big Dance...UND accepting of their BSC finish as was predicted preseason. SU wins with a first year HC who loves sprinkles...UND stuck with BJ who cares about shoes. Feel a little better now about the a** kicking at the Scheels Arena since it was a loss against a NCAA tournament team. The time can not come soon enough for BJ and BF to clear out their offices IMO. 2 Quote

You are so wrong!!!! UND was predicted 9th and instead finished tied for last. They would've had to have won 3 more games to be tied for 9th. It's going to be a long offseason and an even longer season til he is gone. Quote

We thought darrel was nuts when he started this thread when UND came in 2nd last season. The nut actually goes on other Big Sky boards and rips jones . Anybody who posts garbage for 418 days with zero chance of happening due to the absurdity of the idea needs to be called out. 418 DAYS and not even a hint about him getting canned by the people who actually know something about the UND athletic dept. 2 Quote

NDSU is dancing, while UND doesn't even get to participate in their conference tournament. That's the reality. UND basketball is still performing like a DII squad; the people in the UND athletic department should perhaps do something about this rather then sitting back and "hoping" for the best. Perhaps an intervention is necessary? UND went 12-8 in the BSC for two seasons; during those seasons, over 75% of the conference had losing records (aka the conference was horrible). The good teams (Montana and Weber State) embarrassed UND most of the times they played. It's a real tricky business sticking up for Brian Jones because of his first two BSC seasons; can you say anomaly? Quote

We have pleased with Jones work prior to this season. We evaluate coaches based on internal not external expectations. For example the Mens Basketball program evaluation his heavily weighted on conference play. Most fans do not understand that... We expected a down year this season and we had zero interest in letting Brian go this year. Quote

"We" FWIW, I also expected a down year this year, but even then I was surprised with how terrible the team looked. I thought the lack of teamwork, rebounding, and an identifiable offense was a symptom of the egos on the 2013-14 team, but apparently it's how Jones coaches his teams to play. Also, evaluation based on conference play? The conference play in which Jones is 52-65 in his career at UND? That conference play? 2 Quote
