Longtime fan Posted August 13, 2016 Posted August 13, 2016 I would like to add that I thought toivonen looks like real deal. Each of the qbs seem to look his way first and most often. Indication that they are comfortable with him. Not a burner but a nice frame true fresh that looks willing to learn and puts in max effort every play. Great possession wr. Great addition Quote
Sioux94 Posted August 13, 2016 Posted August 13, 2016 Thanks for the great reports as well. It's nice that our OL gets to go up against such a strong DL and strong defense overall. It sounds like we had some success running the ball I think right? That bodes well because if we can run some on our defense we should be able to run on almost anybody. In Bubba's interview he said he wasn't happy with the Defense in the goal line situations, which means the offense must have executed well at the goal line which is important obviously. We need TD's not field goals. I'd be more worried if he said the offense was inept at the goal line, because I know the defense will end up being solid. Sounds like a fair amount of penalties and mental mistakes, hopefully they should be able to get that cleaned up by the Stony Brook game. Coe sounds good.....but I'm a little fearful we'll be 5 games into the season and having multiple bad snaps losing yards and killing drives like two years ago. Hopefully he can nail down the snap before week one. It's hard to imagine that both Santiago and Oliviera better than last year. I mean it makes sense that they are because they were true freshman, but man it's crazy that they are better than last year.....they are going to be really fun to watch for another 3 years, plus we have Nevermann this year. Has to be our deepest quality backfield ever? Quote
UND-FB-FAN Posted August 13, 2016 Posted August 13, 2016 Race between Bartels and Heidlebaugh is obviously a close one; however, I'd guess Heidlebaugh wins it based on him being a bit more athletic than Bartels. All 4 running backs are very capable, with John and Brady being a super tandem. Hopefully they stay healthly all year! The WR spot is surprisingly coming along. Both scholarship true freshmen look quite good and FBS transfer Demun Mercer will be capable on the field too. Throw in the incumbents Clive and Stanley and you have a nice corps for Studsrud. Cloyd will be an unreal TE moving forward. He will play a lot this year. As others have mentioned, both him and Pinke will be a great tandem moving forward. The depth at TE and FB is really quite good. Cant have any injuries to the OL. Right now, starting 5 offensive linemen are going to be road graders. They will move people and the drop off will be minimal to last year's line IF there are no injuries or changes to current starting 5 (Stockwell, Bell, Coe, Taylor, Cox). Defensive line and linebackers will be just fine. As everyone knows, DB is where questions lie. Have to get Harris and Tyus Carter healthy and back at CB. Of course, Reyes needs to stay healthy all year - tremendous tremendous player. Arnell and Palmborg both capable at other safety spot. Chris Carter can get the job done as a third or forth corner along with Hunt. I do not think either true freshman corner should be on the field this year; if Holm or Randolph are playing, that does not bode well for the pass defense. Need to have the four "veteran" corners (Hunt only spring ball) healthy and playing! Specialists appear to be the same as 2014: Taubenheim and Bolduc. Same old narrative continues, though: QB, OL, and DBs need to all stay healthy all year and then UND is looking very good. Go Hawks! Serious 2016 Big Sky Conference Champion Contenders ... 3 Quote

Give the players a video camera and have an intern edit the footage. Solves the "not enough resources" problem. https://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=brad+miller+time Quote
Parkers Pros Posted August 15, 2016 Posted August 15, 2016 That video is great. Needs a little sound tweaking but would love some back stories into the world of some of these guys just like TTD with hockey. Keep it going! Quote
Popular Post Teeder11 Posted August 16, 2016 Popular Post Posted August 16, 2016 Made it out to the last hour of practice this morning: The defense, namely the secondary, had a challenging morning. Their heads just didn't seem in the game and they were caught out of position a lot. Players on defense would line up for snaps not knowing what scheme they were running because they were late getting set from the last play. Coach Schmidt addressed the lackadasical focus afterward, making the entire defensive squad do an extended session of Up/Downs. The highlights: 1. Heidelbaugh hit Clive for a 90 yard TD after Clive fought the ball away from defender Torrey Hunt. 2. Bartels hit Mercer in the back of the end zone on a quick strike. 3. Santiago caught a couple of nice swing passes out to the flats, and on one Santiago beat the DBs to the pylon even thought it appeared the DBs had the angle. 4. Studsrud hit Mercer on a nice 30+ yard out pattern over Torrey Hunt. 5. Thanks to some bad focus by the secondary, Bolinski had a 90 yard TD pass of this own to young WR Easton Erbes, a true freshman walk on out of Breckinridge, Minn. 6. Nevermann displayed a lot of nice runs today, mainly up the gut. His running style is sudden, smooth and violent, if you could imagine something like that. He finds a hole and does not hesitate to break, he pours on the jets and smashes through the line with maybe a few jukes, when needed -- or a sudden leap -- like in the last spring game. 7. To give the D a little love, Donnell Rodgers did have a very nice PBU on a pass from Heidelbaugh. Despite the number of long pass plays this morning, there were still too many drops by receivers, at least one bad snap and a couple of false starts. Better focus is needed. --END-- 6 Quote
Sioux94 Posted August 16, 2016 Posted August 16, 2016 If our secondary can't stop a true walk on freshman QB to a true walk on freshman WR........god help us against Bowling Green Granted Reyes and some other starters may not have been in during some of those plays......but our secondary still seems to be a big concern. Thanks goodness we don't play Montana this year. Hopefully they can get it cleaned up some, as well as the snap. Odds are looking good that we will have a couple bad snaps in the first few games. Hopefully he is short arming them and not sailing them over the QB's head so that in addition to losing a down.....we don't also lose 15 yards. Thanks for the report though Teeder! Quote

Yes, it was a lot of second and third stringers out there today on D, not totally, but let's just say that youth was well represented. Quote
