UND1981 Posted November 12, 2015 Posted November 12, 2015 A little unique is better that joining the hawk fraternity. Quote
Hayduke Posted November 12, 2015 Posted November 12, 2015 I'm not really warming to either of these remaining choices. The Rough Riders' ties to the state are tenuous at best. It's like having a choice of the "Gippers" because Reagan wore a Sioux jersey at some point in the past. Reagan flew in and out of here. Roosevelt ranched here for a few years and said that experience made him a stronger and better man. Big, big difference. Quote
Popular Post Let'sGoHawks! Posted November 12, 2015 Popular Post Posted November 12, 2015 After voting Hawks twice, I am switching my vote to ROUGHRIDERS. In the end, Hawks just became too generic for me. Originally, I had seen the generic nature as a positive, in that it is a name that won't be seen as offensive, and has a lot of logo possibilities. Roughriders can be a great name, with a great logo or logos, and is tied to our state much more than the generic "hawk" name. GO ROUGHRIDERS! Hopefully some others switch like I did, or we will be just another feathered bird next week. 17 Quote
Popular Post 10006_1438565007 Posted November 12, 2015 Popular Post Posted November 12, 2015 I can't help but think that the Teddy tie-in symbolizes what the University of North Dakota does for many of our students and student-athletes. Just as Teddy wasn't born here and didn't' stay long, his time here made him the person he was. Even though Toews, Parise, Oshie, etc. weren't from here and didn't settle in Grand Forks, they put their stamp on UND and UND put its stamp on them. They will always be part of the UND and Grand Forks community because of the time they spent here and the significance they had on each other. My 2 cents. Go Roughriders! 15 Quote

tnt Posted November 12, 2015 Posted November 12, 2015 The very weekend we are making the final vote for the nickname we have team coming in to play our hockey team that has Hawks in their name. It is very common in college nicknames and for that reason I am voting for Roughriders so we can at least be a little unique. ... and I think Schlossman said that a couple other UND teams are playing the Skyhawks and Hawkeyes as well. Quote
Dagger Posted November 12, 2015 Posted November 12, 2015 Not only is that team that has Hawks in their nickname coming is to town this weekend, it is a team that is in our very own NCHC and will be here every year. When people make any reference to a Hawks team in our hockey conference in the future they will need to be more specific. Go Roughriders. Quote
Popular Post mksioux Posted November 12, 2015 Popular Post Posted November 12, 2015 I'd rather UND have a unique nickname based on exaggerated history that almost nobody will know about than a common nickname whose horribleness should be evident to all. 6 Quote
bigskyvikes Posted November 12, 2015 Posted November 12, 2015 ... and I think Schlossman said that a couple other UND teams are playing the Skyhawks and Hawkeyes as well. I remember when a bunch of you hated schloss for the Nodak support and told him to shutup, now you love what he says? 2 Quote
SIOUXFAN97 Posted November 12, 2015 Author Posted November 12, 2015 I remember when a bunch of you hated schloss for the Nodak support and told him to shutup, now you love what he says? wrong...i had no problem with him saying he was for nodaks...it was the part where he said und was opening itself up to more protests and crap bc we went from an indian mascot to the vile and racist teddy roosevelt...plus no one has ever said that roughriders will have anything to do with teddy....it was the scare tactics used that were totally garbage and not needed (unless your trying to sell newspapers????) UNDBIZ Posted November 12, 2015 Posted November 12, 2015 I remember when a bunch of you hated schloss for the Nodak support and told him to shutup, now you love what he says? People were upset with Schloss for passing off the Nodak support of a couple hockey players as support of all UND athletes. Now he's just talking about the schedule, which is quite fitting for this weekend. One was opinion, one is fact. 1 Quote
InHeavenThereIsNoBeer Posted November 12, 2015 Posted November 12, 2015 I remember when a bunch of you hated schloss for the Nodak support and told him to shutup, now you love what he says? I also thought noticed this. He can "take sides"... as long as it's mine. 2 Quote
Siouxphan27 Posted November 12, 2015 Posted November 12, 2015 I remember when a bunch of you hated schloss for the Nodak support and told him to shutup, now you love what he says? exactly. It's been quite entertaining to observe the ever changing thoughts and ideas of some in the roughrider crowd. 1 Quote

runaroundsioux Posted November 12, 2015 Posted November 12, 2015 When this whole voting disaster started Kelly wanted Sundogs. Then when that went down in flames and Fighting Hawks was the surprise leader, he wanted NoDaks, why else would he add it for a second vote said the RR cabul. Now we find out that it was Fighting Hawks all along! It's hard to keep up. Did anyone stop to think NoDaks was added back to the voting to thwart Fighting Hawks? Or that Peter Johnson comes out just before the final vote to publicly state that the "Blackhawk" logo that supposedly caused all this support for Fighting Hawks would not be the logo if Fighting Hawks wins. Or here's a thought, Kelley doesn't give a rats ass what it is. His bags are already packed, and come Jan. 16, he will hit the road and not look back in the rear view mirror. But the saddest part of this whole deal is,we will be stuck with one of two names that both suck. Giant Douche, meet Turd Sandwich. 3 1 Quote

Oh, wait. No. No he couldn't have, because those ARE NOT uniquely from North Dakota. 3 Quote
