No, you have it backwards. As much as UND people would like to be NDSU's primary rival, it's been too long since UND accomplished anything NDSU fans respect on the field for that to be the case. Like it not, until UND builds a program worth respecting, SDSU will be NDSU's primary rival and the Marker Game will remain the most important, and the hyped, game on NDSU's schedule.

I would venture to guess that this forum wouldn’t be the only forum to go nuts if UND beat the bisons.

Can you imagine the melt down in the bisons sites? Both ags and bisonsville!

Priceless!!!!’

Absolutely, and anyone have doubts, all you need to do is get a ticket for Sept 7th game (there will be some for sale for a premium - as always), and go and witness it (some cheers not pretty). The next time we beat them, they'll be trying to wash the taste out their mouths all the way up to the following year's game. There will be exponential ramifications, as compared to those from the losses they had with one of the SD U's in each of the previous 3 years.

If that's the case, it sure is interesting that tickets for the 2015 UND/NDSU game were the most expensive tickets ever sold at face value by NDSU.  Especially considering the marker games (and don't forget UNI) are the most important and "hyped".  That ticket in 2015 still has a higher face value than the 2018 Jacks game, despite it being 3 years ago and UND coming off a 5 and 7 season..

Doesn't it always comes down to $,          ^^^               nodak651 found the smoking gun, NDSU athletic department set the higher seat prices.

Now Icing on the cake, attendance.

UND's game in 2015 was highest attended game in last 4 years and only game over 19,000 ticket sales since.

Of those games, they hosted 6 SD school games (2 playoff) in the last 4 years at the MP, cha-ching, every game with less attendance.

That's two interesting metrics. :whistling::D

Wrong, but keep convincing yourself of that. If you truly believe that, then you are in the minority of NDSU fans. THE University of North Dakota will always catch the attention of NDSU fans moreso than South Dakota State. I know NDSU season-ticket holders who gave away recent semifinal game tickets (vs mighty SDSU); they certainly won’t be giving away next year’s UND-NDSU game tickets.

After a couple seasons of UND being in the same conference as NDSU, you will change your mind. Remember I told you so.

In addition, and in reference to beating NDSU and it's affect on UND's football program and growth, why was NDSU so affraid to play this game that they low balled UND with such a !@#$ offer?  They new that UND playing NDSU and beating them would be a huge boon for UND, and pretty much lose lose for NDSU.  They made an offer that they seriously doubted that UND would accept.  NDSU is paid UND 100k and 140K for the games.  The first game was 20 more than any game on the schedule that year.  $20 x 18,000 = $360,000 added revenue over any other game on the schedule.  I wonder why NDSU was so hesitant to play UND when according to some, it's just another game on the schedule, and a win doesn't help the program more or less than any other game on the schedule.

Surely you understand that ticket demand will be naturally be higher for Bison games involving UND simply because there are more UND fans within easy travel distance to the Fargodome than there are fans of any other school.  High ticket demand for the UND game does not necessarily mean that Bison fans are more interested in seeing NDSU play UND than any other school, SDSU for example.

Also, most of the tickets to Bison games are sold as part of a season ticket package, so it is impossible to separate the sale of a ticket for one game from all the other games in the package. For that reason, the individual face value of game tickets is meaningless for those tickets that are sold as part of a season ticket package. All that really matters is the total for all tickets.

So you’re saying the higher price listed on the UND game tickets was a misprint?   Maybe as a season ticket turdholder you were overcharged for your season ticket package and are due a refund?

No, I'm saying it's irrelevant to the season ticket holder. You get the same tickets at the same price regardless of what face value is printed on any of the game tickets.

Ah.  So due to the randomness of ndsu ticket pricing, maybe when your tickets for next year arrive, the Missouri state game will be the total cost of the ticket package and the other games will be ‘free?’

Just seems like quite a coincidence what happened with pricing last time UND was in Fargo.

It's not random, but it could just as well be. The total price for all the tickets in the package is the only number that matters.

Right, UND hockey does the same thing. The high price randomly falls on the gopher game if they find the balls to come to UND and play us that year. Coincidence seems to be contagious.

Actually, your argument runs contrary to the idea that NDSU's primary rival is UND, and that Bison fans are more interested in playing UND than any other school.

I disagree.

UND is such a rival of NDSU that NDSU's athletic department purposefully delayed playing them as long as possible. It wasn't that NDSU merely didn't want to play UND, but that NDSU wanted to spite UND as much as possible. That signals a TRUE rivalry if you ask me.

This was possible based on NDSU's success starting in 2010 and UND's lack thereof under Mussman (also mainly in 2010).

Hmm, UND is NDSU's  biggest rival because: a) Attendance and ticket prices are higher for the UND game than other games, and b) Bison fans don't want to schedule UND out of spite?

You don't see the contradiction?

There isn't a contradiction unless you want to use ignorance as your own argument.

You should know, as well as really everyone, that NDSU-UND games will sell out. I would imagine NDSU has also known that since 2004. However, NDSU still didn't schedule the current 2 game series until 2014 and never did schedule an out-of-conference game in Grand Forks. It certainly wasn't because UND didn't want to play NDSU, but quite the opposite.

NDSU felt - emotionally and strategically - that not scheduling UND (despite the guaranteed one game sell out with high ticket prices) would hurt UND and protect NDSU in the long-term. The benefits outweighed the risks in the long-term, you could say, so that is what NDSU did. How can you not see that?

It obviously worked for NDSU, as the fan base/allegiances have completely shifted since the two programs last regularly played in 2003. The last time the two played as conference rivals, UND was coming off a national championship in 2001 and NDSU had recently underwent a coaching change in 2003. The roles are quite different now, obviously. UND fans understand that Roger Thomas screwed up by not moving up to DI when NDSU and SDSU did. We acknowledge that and understand it ultimately hurt UND.

Nonetheless, UND is NDSU's primary rival and NDSU is UND's primary rival. No way around it unless you want to blatantly ignore history, North Dakota culture, and geography.

I believe in 2015 NDSU raised their season ticket prices the exact amount that they raised the UND/NDSU individual tickets (compared to the other home games).  So...yah.

No, there was no correlation between the face value of individual game tickets and the package price of season  tickets.

OK, I should rephrase this. Season ticket prices where not equal to the sum of the face value of game tickets, and they did not increase by an equal amount.

Yah you're right, cause that is not what I said.  Of course that isn't the case.

I said they raised some season tickets exactly the same amount as the UND premium increase.  That isn't a coincidence.
