siouxweet
what is UND going to to do this weekend? after all they are playing a team coached by the greatest person ever to coach in college hockey, one who has never had a losing season, one who has never had a team fade down the stretch, one who would never lose to an inferior opponent and one who would never coach a team that gave up a two goal lead an lost. looks to me like a lost cause. The cheap shots at Blais are getting old. He'll be on the other bench this weekend, but one of the greatest college hockey coaches of the modern era deserves more respect than that.

brianvf
Looks like Ortega gave UND some bulletin board material. His comment makes no sense at all. They scored 4 goals, it's not like they blasted Duluth for 11 goals like Vermont did to Massachusetts on Saturday night. It's not a question of if they'll score on Zane, I'm sure they will...but his comment was humorous. “Kind of sending a message to North Dakota that we can score on any goalie out there.” And he loses all credibility anyway with that statement. Especially because of this: http://www.collegehockeystats.net/1415/boxes/mnabuno1.o06 Kenny Cameron from Northern Alberta would disagree with you, Ortega. brianvf
The cheap shots at Blais are getting old. It's similar to the Hakstol-haters, I would guess. Most of them just pine for Blais to return, thinking that he would right the ship instantly and bring UND 4 national titles in the next 6 years. It's just not realistic. Much like the Fire Hakstol thread getting started after the first loss of the season. I see all the "cheap shots" as just some posters making fun of the "Bring Dean Back" posters. Much like the Fire Hakstol thread getting started after the first loss of the season. I see all the "cheap shots" as just some posters making fun of the "Bring Dean Back" posters. I have never called for Blais to be lured back (I think he's going to retire once his current Omaha contract is up), but it is amazing to me how little respect the man gets after what he did when he took over what was a sinking ship in 1994. We were close to becoming another Michigan Tech or Alaska-Anchorage. The wrong hire back in 1994 would have been catastrophic for our program. Blais pulled us out of the toilet and led us to our sixth national title in his third season behind the bench, three years after finishing with 11 wins. I was there for Gino's final season and it was about as ugly as the FB team in 2013. It was one of the best coaching jobs I have ever seen at any level in any sport. And it's an undeniable fact that when you take over for a legend (which is what Hakstol did), you will inevitably face comparisons. I don't think it's fair, but it almost always happens. If you don't like the Hak haters, that is fine. But throwing Blais under the bus doesn't make any sense.

I don't dislike any Sioux fan, whether they be a Hak Hater or a Blais Hater or a (slightly harder to find) Rube Bjorkman Hater. And I've got nothing but love for Blais. He is, as you said, a legend at UND (much like his predecessor).

Some people on here have been hating on Hakstol since Blais left. There have been a number of posters that reference situations where "Blais teams wouldn't...", and those situations have been proven to happen to Blais as well, even to teams he coached at UND. This in no way is throwing Blais under the bus. It is showing that even legendary coaches are human.

I saw that moreso as a shot at the SS.com posters giving Blais too much love and not at Deano himself. Do you really think people hate Blais in Grand Forks? I've NEVER heard a bad thing about the guy. People still talk about him like he's a God.

They scored on Duluth Friday night too. Doesn't do much good when you cough up 3 goals in the third and lose. That being said, this is probably the best Omaha team we've seen in awhile. Should be an entertaining series.
dagies
BTW, no one is throwing Blais under the bus. They are making fun of statements made by other posters about why Blais is a better coach than Hakstol (or insert the coaches name here, if the coach was someone other than Hakstol or Blais). Blais is just the topic, not the target.

You forgot "...one who can beat you shorthanded with no goalie." And yes, this is sarcasm directed at those who would fire Hak and lure D.B. back to win a string of national championships. Not a comment intended to malign Mr. Blais who, I might add, is a legend of a coach at UND and beloved by me for his efforts and contributions. I just feel the need sometimes to remind people of just how important that 1994 hire was and how things would be much different around here if we hadn't hired the man we did.
