Montana @ North Dakota

He did. Demler and Comes both left the team after 1 and 2 years respectively and Bradley only made it one year. There was a QB in each class (excluding a redshirt) in 2011. Two of those QB's graduated, 2 left the program. That is where the hole occured. And after how the last JuCo experience went, I see why Mussman didn't try again. A guy like Hanson is a very rare occurence.

Here's what the QB roster has looked like since 2009:

2009

Landry - Jr

Goska - So

Hendrickson - RFr

Nichols - RFr

Townsend - Fr

2010

Landry - Sr

Goska - Jr

Nichols - So

Hendrickson - So

Demler - Fr

Comes - Fr

2011

Goska - Sr

Hendrickson - Jr

Bradley - So

Comes - RFr

2012

B. Hanson - Sr

Hendrickson - Sr

Bartels - Fr

J. Hanson - Fr

Mollberg - Fr

2013

Bartels - RFr

J. Hanson - RFr

Mollberg - RFr

Riddle - Fr (has left team)

Palendech - Fr

QB's recruited by year:

2009 - 1

2010 - 2

2011 - 0

2012 - 3

2013 - 2

Wow, thanks for posting that, Bradley and Comes threw a wrench in everything, well I do hope UND's QBs can get sorted out and play hard against UM (even beating them).

And yet he's purposefully limiting the first team reps for both guys.

Look at it from this perspective: you have a huge game this week with a team you think is even better than the #6 ranked team that just beat you at home. So, do you get as many first team reps as possible for your freshman QB? Nope. You purposfully decrease his first team reps by splitting time with the other QB.

I don't think I'm going out on a limb here by saying that's not every coach's formula for success. Even if you think Bartels will play, for goodness' sake Muss, give Joe as much time with the first team offense as possible!

This is based on speculation. We don't know who is taking what reps. FYI every week regardless of if there if THE guy or not the #2 qb takes some reps with the first team. That's why you saw a guy like Hendrickson last year come in and not miss a beat.

Montana went through this last year without Johnson, I don't think you can totally blame the coaching staff for playing musical quarterbacks, it's more a case of the QB's failing (maybe a little harsh) to step up and win the job. Mussman and crew would be ecstatic if one of these two would be able to come in and lead the team and be "the guy", but until that happens the leash might be one half of poor play before the other guy gets a chance. If you're lucky it will only take a week or 2, if you're not...like Montana last year...it might never totally happen. Hopefully Mollberg will now step up and be able to prove himself as the starter. Also both guys being freshman doesn't really help, usually you have at least one candidate who gets some snaps the year before due to injury or at the end of blowout games, obviously that didn't happen.

It will sort itself out, bad thing is with UND's frontloaded schedule they need one of them to take over pretty quickly.

UND has this next year:

@ San Jose St

vs Robert Morris

@ Missouri St

BYE

@ Montana St

vs Montana (yep 3 years in a row)

vs Portland St

BYE

@ Southern Utah

@ Eastern Washington

vs Weber St (first time meeting)

vs Northern Arizona

@ Northern Colorado

Doesn't get easier next year with a sophomore QB, that's why we REALLY need a running game, and of course a defense.

For how much you've been complaining about everything lately I think you need to step back and get ahold of the facts before you claim Mussman isn't doing his job. It's like me saying you don't do your job without knowing even what you do. It's not fair to the program you support so before you go complaining again get ahold of some facts and make an intelligent argument instead of going off on an emotional rampage based on nothing.

Also on the whole 'Mussman was rotating QBs last year' thing; if Hanson hadn't been injured last year would Hendrickson have gotten in any game other than the first? The only game they rotated legitimately was EWU. At MSU Hanson was a sitting duck and couldn't defend himself so they had to put in Marcus.

So why did Muss do the duo thing last year with 2 senior QB's? Is this a new Muss trend, play 2 QB's in every game. Yes Bartels should have finished the game if he was named the starter, like I said camp should prove who the better player is. How did Hanson get the job over Hendrickson last year? If he wasn't the clear QB because against MSU and I think EWU Muss used the duo QB thing. Its NOT working. Pick one!!

Hansen would have started all year if not for the injury. IMO last season the situation at QB was more a product of Hendrickson getting a chance and playing off the charts. If he could have maintained that type of play he would have started the rest of the season. But he was inconsistent so Hansen who was very steady got the bulk of the playing time.

That is based on a quote from the coach himself, and if I hadn't already deleted Muss's show from my DVR I could provide it verbatim. Here's as close I can come: "I will announce the starter later in the week, but both guys will be taking reps with the first team."

Making the point that he is purposefully limiting first team reps for both guys isn't speculative. That's fact. One guy isn't getting the first team reps. Two guys are.

So Bartels get two reps with the first team and Montana has to continue to prepare for two different QBs. That's a definite possibility.

Mussman wants Montana to prepare for both. Of course he'll say both will take reps. They will both technically get reps with the ones as I stated earlier but they will not be anywhere close to equal. It's all smoke and mirrors from Mussman.

Do you think he will play Shaugaby and or Sparks in meaningful time?

One thing I am certain about after reading this thread, I am very glad none of you on this board are part of the UND coaching staff.

That is the whole point of the board.....for fans to vent and pontificate. Hell, when the Bison were down I thought Vigen ought to be fired and Bohl put on a short chain. Good damn thing I have nothing to say about coaching either....but.....I will always have an opinion on it.... ;)

Prepare for both? Montana could care less who's playing. They understand both are freshman and are going to look to bring pressure regardless. This "split QB practice reps" thing during our crucial tough home stretch is pure ridiculousness. This can only hurt UND; it has no effect on Montana other than our starter may not be prepared.

Now, hopefully Mollberg plays good in the first half and we can let him play the entire game, because the sooner we find our full-time QB, the sooner this team has a shot at the playoffs (whether that's this season or next).

Do you have the same DB's as last year?

I think people are under estimating the change between the first half and second with the UND defense. Are they good, not yet, but they did show some growth. I have read many times that you see the most change between the 2nd and third games. I hope it is true here. Zenner is a beast, and I don't think anyone can really prepare for him. Montana has two good backs, but they are not Zenner, not even close. I don't care if they each get 100 yards, that isn't what will hurt. Play action, and screens if we worry to much about the run.

JJ is a great QB, but I don't think he is the difference maker in the game, even though that is Montana's opinions. We know we can play form 3 TD's behind, but can the Griz? That shows a lot of character for this team.

You may be more correct than we all know.
