Grand Forks needs to continue building on the momentum of some of these industries they rely on and do well. Diversification is great, but GF will likely fail to be the best location for many other industries that might have eyes on ND. I wouldn't waste too much time or resources on those lower chance options and instead keep piling on the food processing and drone trains that seem to work well overall. This company will mostly produce retail fries for grocery chains like Costco and Sam's club I believe. Mostly using yellow potatoes and likely will have battered fries as well. Although Simplot doesnt do a lot of retail (directly), this will cause major competition for employees which will drive up wages and naturally bring more people to town. Good news all around. 1 1 Quote
Popular Post bincitysioux Posted Monday at 12:20 PM Popular Post Posted Monday at 12:20 PM Grand Forks leaders to consider 'high-end resort' plans Quote The Turtle Mountain Band of Chippewa has purchased land along the southwest edge of Grand Forks with hopes of building a casino, reigniting a conversation that has been happening in Grand Forks for at least 20 years. This would be outstanding for Grand Forks, and would really set it apart from the other 3 "big cities" in ND. Hopefully this can finally move forward. 6 Quote

90siouxfan Posted Monday at 02:20 PM Posted Monday at 02:20 PM Hmmm. wondering.... would the Fighting Chippeweas have been subject to the same attack? long range planning? 1 Quote
forksandspoons Posted Monday at 02:42 PM Posted Monday at 02:42 PM Would it be possible for the city to approve but only if the tribe works with the local non-profits somehow? No idea if that’s been done elsewhere before? Quote
NewUndFan Posted Monday at 03:03 PM Posted Monday at 03:03 PM I know someone who works at a non profit. The amount of money they pull in a week is crazy. More then what they need to run these organizations. Where there is wasteful spending because they receive so much. Those organizations may lose some of the charitable gambling income, but they would still make enough to run their organizations. Grand Forks needs something to set themself apart. The casino would bring tax revenue, offer another hotel, bring another big employer and offer another entertainment option in Grand Forks. 3 Quote

If allowed do you think the other tribes wouldn't latch onto Bismarck and Fargo? I doubt that tribe has the funds to build it without massive subsidies from the state. State has enough gaming without adding more. Quote

Kab Posted Monday at 04:35 PM Posted Monday at 04:35 PM Do casinos have to be on land classified as reservation? Not opposed to the casino, just wondering if they can buy land anywhere to put a casino on it Quote

Brim006 Posted Monday at 05:44 PM Posted Monday at 05:44 PM Wow that would be huge for Grand Forks! Unnerving hearing that Moorhead is potentially on track for one as well. I wonder if BOTH GF and FM getting large casinos and hotels is feasible or if it will be a one or the other type scenario. Unfortunately, if it is a one or the other scenario, naturally the GF good ole boys club will sabotage things for GF to ensure FM would get yet another boost leaving GF behind. Maybe they will work hard to sabotage it either way lol. If they both happen to get them, I think that would probably still be fine, as I think that would still be a great and much needed boost to the GF community. 1 Quote

Green Banner Posted Monday at 08:07 PM Posted Monday at 08:07 PM I don't see the state giving approval, the legislature just shot down sports betting due to concerns of gambling addiction and social economic problems. I hope it goes through and is a success. But I will hold my breath as GF dosnt like to have nice things 1 Quote

NewUndFan Posted Monday at 09:52 PM Posted Monday at 09:52 PM Wouldnt you think the Tribe has already checked with the State before they purchased this land? I would think they have some sort of idea if they think they will get this passed before purchasing the land. I probably am wrong. Quote

The last big hurdle is approval from the US Dept. of the Interior, guess who just was named Secretary of the Interior...Burgum. Land is purchased, this is a done deal. 1 2 Quote
