2013 Recruiting

I think is was amazing that Malik Rucker was in GF for the spring game (I assume he was there). For him to make to trip when he has offers from so many big time programs adds a lot of credibility to our recruiting efforts this off season.

If there were 50 or so recruits on campus, someone must have heard who else was there or seen their letterwinner's jacket! Who else was in town?

There were lots of high school letterman jackets at the game (recruits) and they were tailgating with the fans along with their parents. Tough to get too snoopy and try and peak at name tags. But that raises a question - if you approach a recruit at a UND event such as this and say something like, "Thanks for checking out UND, we hope you join our program." have you just violated an NCAA rule for booster contact?

If you initiate contact, a strict reading of NCAA rules would put that as a possible yes.

Boosters are prohibited from any contact with a recruit, unless a recruit contacts the booster, and even then, the booster is not allowed to discuss recruiting.

Probably not a problem but it would be best not to say anything that sounds like recruiting. You can probably say something like, "Hope you enjoy your visit to UND and Grand Forks." It sounds like the key is what would you say to anyone that is visiting. The possible problem comes with the "We hope you join our program." That sounds a little like recruiting.

He was there. A coach said that his brother is with the program, but maybe I misheard and he is just at UND because saw them both in the stands and can't find any mention of brother being with team. Though I didn't look to hard.

Anyways that seems to be the connection and why he visited.

I know, Dan Bell, 6'5" 299lb O/Lineman was on campus for the Spring Game. Bell indicated he enjoyed the campus, coaching staff and facilities. Bell indicated UND had a great fan base and the people were very friendly.

Thanks for the info. Who else is recruitng Bell?

Do you know of other WI athletes who attended our spring game?

I know Bell is being heavily recruited. He has visited numerous Missouri Valley Conf schools, and indicated after visiting UND, the school and football program was elevated to his upper tier. Currently UND is the only school to provide a early offer, but has numerous FBS teams conducting their spring evaluations. Bell stated he really appreciated the friendly atmosphere after attending the spring game

Wiki isn't working for me so don't know if these offers are posted.

RB Kani Benoit, 5'11" 175 Phoenix (Thunderbird), AZ - offer from SDSU

http://michigan.scout.com/a.z?s=162&p=8&c=1&nid=5434669

LB DeAndre Miller, 6'2" 220 Buckeye (Union), AZ - offers from Arizona, Colorado State, Eastern Washington, SoDak St, UTSA.

I believe these two at one point (maybe rivals) were considered NDSU potential offers, but I believe someone on BV stated that the main recruiting guy in AZ told him it was UND. There were a couple others on scout for AZ, but I think they've been covered (Tre Favors, Nate Phillips and Aeron Carr).

Glad Bell had a good time. Looks like a very talented player. Would love to see him in the Kelly Green :)

Wiki isn't working for me either. I had heard that we may have offered Miller but had been unable to confirm it. I know we have Favors and Carr as offered and I think Phillips as well. I know that SU had offered Benoit but I am not sure he was on our list.

Thanks for the info - I will update Wiki as soon as I can get in there.

We need someone to commit.

I agree it would be nice to see a commit early but I really don't think we will see anything until after camps. I know the coaches got a lot of the kids they wanted to get here on campus for the spring game. Now if they can get those kids back up here for camps and get a week with them instead of a day, I think we'll see a few commitments.

He hits the hole very hard but he doesn't seem very fast. Looks like an average high school runningback when it comes to speed. He doesn't necessarily out run anybody in that video. Doesn't look quick or shifty either. He would definitely be a third down back IMO

I'm not gonna disagree about the lack of wiggle. But you might want to watch it again and notice his speed, 5 yards every 2 strides is very good elite speed is around 6 yards every 2 strides and he's making those slow white boys look like slow middle school white boys speed wise.
