108498 Posted June 6, 2013 Posted June 6, 2013 Sorry that only works in Col. UND needs the flood waters. Quote
IrishSiouxFan Posted June 6, 2013 Posted June 6, 2013 Outlaws, Roughnecks, or Rough Riders are my favorites. With that said the administration will probably pick something that 50 other schools are using. Quote
UNDBIZ Posted June 6, 2013 Posted June 6, 2013 Sorry that only works in Col. UND needs the flood waters. Steal the East Grand Forks Green Wave logo for that one. Quote
108498 Posted June 6, 2013 Posted June 6, 2013 It is likely that sooner or later (likely sooner) the base will close since the base lost out on the newest plans. Speaking as a retired Airforce brat and a student at UND I personally think the base has done alot for the town and I think we should honor them by having the mascot of Warriors of the North. Quote

They already decided the drone program wouldn't be in GF? Quote
108498 Posted June 6, 2013 Posted June 6, 2013 yes over a week ago. I visited the base I grow up on, and its sad to say, but without the drone project the base likely won't last long. Quote
GeauxSioux Posted June 6, 2013 Posted June 6, 2013 GFAFB lost out being selected for the tanker mission, but the UAV mission is alive and will expand if chosen for one of the 6 test sites in America, which is connected to Grand Sky Quote
108498 Posted June 6, 2013 Posted June 6, 2013 I know this is not about the base, but I am interested. I haven't heard about the UAV. If chosen how many personel would be added. I just saw the news for it and It seems like a very small project right now. http://www.wdaz.com/event/article/id/17643/ Quote
108498 Posted June 6, 2013 Posted June 6, 2013 225 acers is not much. So I can't expect it to bring the base back to life even if it works out we get it. Quote

I'm sure Warriors would offend somebody because god forbid we dont want to offend somebody with a name they don't have to look at or read. 1 Quote
scpa0305 Posted June 6, 2013 Posted June 6, 2013 I heard the new Dallas Stars jerseys are our old ones. Quote

IrishSiouxFan Posted June 6, 2013 Posted June 6, 2013 I'm sure after what UND's been through, they'll opt to play it safe and stray away from any nickname that could potentially be taken out of context and offend someone. Smart money says it'll be the Rough Riders, which has close ties to the military. 1 Quote

108498 Posted June 7, 2013 Posted June 7, 2013 What would Red River change to? They wouldn't have the same mascot would they? Quote
IrishSiouxFan Posted June 7, 2013 Posted June 7, 2013 Honestly, it doesn't matter if they keep it or change it. UND shouldn't take into consideration the nickname of a neighboring high school in my opinion. Quote
Blackheart Posted June 7, 2013 Posted June 7, 2013 No nickname works best for me. Then unofficially they will always be the Sioux. 4 Quote

jdub27 Posted June 7, 2013 Posted June 7, 2013 That's the way I like it too.... I would guess UND marketing isn't a huge fan though. Tough to make money on licensing or put your "brand" out there without a nickname and probably one of the main reasons UND will end up with a new one. 1 Quote
UNDBIZ Posted June 7, 2013 Posted June 7, 2013 No nickname works best for me. Then unofficially they will always be the Sioux. I would agree, but I'm not sure I can handle the Herald referring to UND as the "Green and White" much longer. It's driving me crazy. 3 Quote

That's an excellent point, If we don't choose one, one will be chosen for us. Not sure how I feel about that. 2 Quote
darell1976 Posted June 7, 2013 Posted June 7, 2013 That's an excellent point, If we don't choose one, one will be chosen for us. Not sure how I feel about that. Kelley had a committee to choose a new name before the whole state law thing came about. I am sure they will go back to that to get all the names on the table and find a way to vote for one. No way can I see the school go nameless longer than 2015. Marketing can't be all that great with just the UND logo and the name North Dakota on jerseys and shirts. Quote
Emerald joker Posted June 7, 2013 Posted June 7, 2013 If we absolutely have to have a nick name I guess Rough Riders works for me, I just can't think of a really cool looking logo, a guys on a horse isn't really intimidating. It would be cool if there was a cooler name for musketeer, "all for one and one for all," but it wouldnt make sense geographically, just a thought. It would fit in with the stick salute lol. 1 Quote
