Zakreski and the Winterhawks up 3-2 with 10 minutes left in game 7 against DuPont and the Silvertips. Tune in on Victory Plus, both will be on the ice a ton. Zak is 28 on white, dupont is 9 on green.

My brother-in-law and his wife are at that game tonight - 1st hockey game ever!   They went on a lark.

Winterhawks were underdogs going in and were down 2-0 in the series so Tips fans must be shocked. Ask them about the energy in the building after the game.

Zellers a finalist for USHL Forward of the Year...Laurila a finalist for USHL Dman of the Year:

https://ushl.com/news/2025/4/24/general-zellers-lee-and-martino-named-ushl-forward-of-the-year-finalists.aspx

https://ushl.com/news/2025/4/22/general-osburn-laurila-and-compton-named-ushl-defenseman-of-the-year-finalists.aspx

Would guess that Zellers wins the forward award and Compton (Northeastern commit) wins the dman.

From USHL post

Will Zellers, F, Green Bay Gamblers
Zellers recorded 71 points in 52 games, tallying a league-leading 44 goals and 27 assists with a 1.37 point-per-game average, the highest mark for any skater in the league this season. The North Dakota commit and was a key piece of the Gamblers’ top ranked power play, which clicked at 27.8%, contributing 10 goals and 12 assists on the man advantage. Despite missing 10 games in the regular season, Zellers took a league-leading 214 shots with a 20.6 shooting percentage. The Maple Grove, Minn. native was selected in the third round of the 2024 NHL Draft by the Colorado Avalanche. The Boston Bruins acquired his rights midway through the season.

If Swanson doesn't want to shoot the puck, put Zellers on his line, kid has never seen a puck he wouldn't shoot.

I like those two on a potential line.  Assuming Zellers wins USHL FotY (and possibly USHL PotY), it would put the past two winners of those awards on the same line.
And my guess is that they would produce nicely together.  :)

I think they may have been linemates when they played for USA in those summer tournaments (Hlinka, 5 Nations)

Who'll play defense?

Feel bad for the Hobie, as I think he was really given a raw deal this past season and should have had a more fair chance to compete.  Wonder also what this ends up meaning for Heil.  Is he going to be interested in coming in only a year behind this guy?

Probably early on, but he did have a chance to take it and run with it, and had a few bad outings when they were looking for someone to step up.  I think with so many good goalies around, that is all you can ask for.

Sandy is also now official. Hobie is gone.

Feel for the kid. Too good to be a third-string but not quite able to put it together as a starter, even after putting in the time. Tough to develop when you don’t get reps. Best bet may be a less competitive league where he can become the go-to guy…wouldn’t be surprised to see him develop quickly in the right situation.

Wish the best for Hobie but he had his shots and could never consistently stop pucks.  I think people railed against playing TJ late in the year simply because he's a transfer because there's no way you look at those 2 goalies and say Hobie should've played over TJ.  We already have more of a pipeline in Jax' first month of being a coach than we did in the last how many years.  Heil and Spunar are both exciting prospects and I look forward to watching goalies develop once again.  I wasn't a fire berry guy but a weak spot I always agreed with was that we weren't developing goalies well enough.

Haha I love KG and what he’s contributed to this program as a player, a volunteer assistant and an assistant coach. I wish him nothing but the best.

Karl Goehring was my favorite all time goaltender.
