Player development is interesting...I didn't see who they had Anders skating with, but it seems likely that he can play more roles with his strength. Brock is clearly a goal scorer, top 6- probably won't ever see ice as a role player. Anders can play any role on any line.

True...I remember when we were playing ND they were talking about how great of a defensive player he was.

One too many question marks don't you think? He has 3 pts in 9 games, no goals, and only 14 shots on net in that time period. Those are not good numbers at all, especially for him being the age he is. After the season there were some that thought he may get a look with the big club (me included) but I'm guessing that's over with now. Hopefully he comes back next year a plays better, which I'm sure he will.

I remember a year ago people wondering why Brock Nelson wasn't putting up shots and numbers when he was playing in the minors. Who knows all the circumstances behind the lack of points. One thing I know, is that Kristo doesn't lack for offensive skill, if anything he needs to have a better focus on the defensive side of the rink, and perhaps that is what they want him to focus on.

Brock was much younger.....and less physically mature than Danny. Once Brock matured physically (which he still can do) everyone knows what type of player he will be. He was a first rounder.

I know what kind of player Danny can be, I also know that at 24-26 years of age you are given a very short leash, sometimes one shot, to prove what kind of player you are. Look at Potulny....he was given 1-2 shots and no matter what he will most likely never get another shot...even though he is a great offensive player (one of the best in the AHL).

LaPoint is coming back for graduate school at UND...figured we should praise the academic accomplishments of our former players as well as the athletic ones.

Kristo is 22. Came to UND as an 18 year old.

And he will do very good in grad school.

Not to be a jerk, and good for Derek to pursue higher Ed, but IMO he is one of the biggest disappoints n the ice we've seen- not much for us, about the same in ECHL...sorry

From what I've heard, he never completely recovered from that nasty leg break (I think it was his sophomore season). Can't really fault a guy for a career limited by injury.

I hear ya, but there wasn't a heckuva lot being demonstrated pre-break either. Not going to pummel an alumnus, but he was a fairly big-time prospect that just didn't pan out.

So, with the break during his sophomore season, you're essentially basing that opinion solely on his freshman season? A season which has a notoriously hard learning curve for the defensive position?

Because he didn't pan out.

Darn failure. Difference is Derrick was on the ice for a heck of a lot less goals given up than Chay was. Leaves the question as to who was a better D?

Just the fact that he went through the pain of rehabilitation to get back in a Sioux uniform, and his dedication to the program gives him a high status in my book. Just because we had high expectations of him, doesn't make him a failure. If a parent has high expectation of his kids, and they don't meet those expectations, should they discard their efforts? People always talk about the Fighting Sioux family, and as far as I'm concerned if they put in the effort, give their all, and keep their noses clean, I can respect that, no matter the preconceived expectations I had.

Ok, I little better than I thought...he was on some very good defensive teams though. I think what we were trying to say was he was a very offense minded defensemen in the USHL and he never quite hit that type of stride in college...some don't. Can't quite figure all that mess out but did Chay have a lot more points? Either way Chay's +/- was still good. Go back and check out Finley's +/-.

But if you look at his Chay's plus minus he needed to score a lot of points to make up for all his defensive lapses. No one even wanted to be paired with Chay because of his defensive lapses always got blamed on his partner. Two UND D told me this.

That is inherant in Chay's style of play as he jumps up a lot. Overall I was fine with both, however, I expected a lot from Lapointe, not so much Chay.

I'm sure LaPointe expected a lot out of himself too and that he's sorry he didn't meet YOUR expectations.
