Going to be a bigger logjam this year, because I really have no idea how the two top leagues will play out in conference play.  Plenty of teams that have shown better in non conference play than expected.

UND is structured to out will the opposition. Be relentless, and wear them down. Hard to do that when you give up bad goals, take penalties, and coast half the game. Hopefully there’s a response tonight.

I'd expect Menghini back tonight, and Jubenville.  Jubenville could be in the lineup for two or three other d men but they'll probably switch out Laurilla.  

They are going to need to have the don't run around the zone talk with #4.

Looked pretty familiar last night, big line changes, players with bad performances were not ‘corrected’, loss on the East coast. Not a surprising loss when you look at from that perspective. And now this from the GF story:

Agree there wasn’t enough playmaking but that’s because the D were constantly sticking handling the puck. Drove me nuts watching our defensemen taking what seemed like 80-90% of the shots, PP and on the rush. Why?!?! And why the F do they feel the need to stick handle the puck for 10 seconds, doing a hot lap around the Off. zone before passing it to a forward?!?! This is like in football when a quarterback constantly throws the ball to the blocking tight end with Justin Jefferson on the field & then they are shocked they aren’t scoring enough touchdowns to win the game. 🤯🤬

It’s B.S. to blame it on the forwards. They can’t do their job, scoring goals, when the D aren’t doing their job, keeping the opposing team out of our end. I know it’s blasphemy, but the play of #4 & #2 cost us that game. They got beat, badly, on the first 3 goals & were behind the play all night. Sets a horrible tone for the rest of the team when your “leaders” make mistakes & aren’t corrected by coaches. Shuffling the D would be good. 2 second rule for puck possession with dmen. Quick f’in passes up the ice. Forwards shoot first mentality. Try that before line change bingo & see what happens.

I noticed 4 & 18 were not paired sometimes, and seen 13 quite often.  Which D sat a bit?  My non pro opinion is 4 & 18 did things that could get a seat, but doubt that would happen.  Wish Reschny would find his groove, but I likely jinxed him in Sioux survivor..

People comment on the tactics that get us throttled,  last night and perennially Bemidji.  Why can't we plan to play against that? Other teams beat the golden caaa nigggets, did they save this masterful strategy just for us?  Is the book on nodak to play this strategy?

Also hard to do that when you can’t match the other team’s physicality.

Clarkson may not be a great team but they were sure fired up to play the Sioux…almost like they wanted to show their former teammate what he was missing.

#4 seems to think he's Bobby Orr. I thought D was our preseason predicted strong point. I thought 3 of our coaches have D pedigrees. I can't figure out why we can't find a quality younger goalie. I'll hang up and listen.

Honestly, UND looked surprised that Clarkson came out to get a win.  Didn't seem to realize that until half the game was gone.  That needs to be corrected.

Yep. All this talk about our defense being so good seems highly misplaced. Almost as false as Duluth isn't good anymore.

I like Jubenvill. He doesn't make a lot of big plays, but he also doesn't make many mistakes. I think that's the kind of presence we need on the backend right now. 4, 18, and 25 already provide plenty of playmaking

My thoughts for tonight:

-Put lines back to same as Fri night UMN game.
-Net front presence on PP, no more just passing back and forth up top...get shots on net and try to bang home rebounds.
-Business suits.
-Spunar in net?  Would have been easier to give Spunar the nod tonight had they won last night, so I doubt it'll happen.
-Cut down on defensive lapses in front of our net.
-Get the damn split.
