Thought the same. Used to hate it when our secondary guys led the league in tackles.

He could be playing a Monster or Rover type of position much closer to LoS than a typical Safety.  Not sure, I haven't watched SIU yet this yet.  But, I agree it is generally a bad sign.  The offensive numbers for SIU are impressive.  UND is going to have it's hands full on defense.

So true. After this game, we will have faced 4 mobile QBs.

1. Avery Johnson

2. Ah Yat

3. Brumgard

4. DJ Williams

I listed them Chronologically. Curious where they would rank talent and skill wise?

I thought Johnson was ass, especially considering the hype.

The top screen shot is from the MVFC website, while this is from SIU's site:

TFL yards and Sacks depicts doesn't spend time on the LOS.  He is more last man to tackle.  must have speed.

I’m all for keeping the ball in the hands of the guy in the conversation for the Walter Payton Award. No Simon. No JTJ. Straight Jerry Football

I agree with that also. Except for possibly in the red zone as we have struggled there. However, many times those crazy multiple QB's in the game type plays are big duds, kind of like that one two point conversion early in the year that was a Cluster F. But if you have Z in there and snap it to JTJ and he just runs the wildcat or something....maybe.

This game, to me, will show if we are a legit top tier team. Top seeds win games like these. Need to have a start like last week, and a finish like UNI. This team cannot afford a bad quarter on the road against a playoff caliber team.

Excited for the Saturday.

Every game so far this year Id say the team has been 'On'. They would have a bad quarter but generally speaking have played well each game. There is always one game a year where the team is off and/or things dont go there way. I have a feeling this could be the weekend. Jerry literally has no true picks, that one he has wasn't really even a pass. He is bound to throw one at some time.

I know this team is finally capable of playing well on the road and winning and I think we can win. However my gut, and/or the fact we are bound to have a subpar game at some point tells me we are a little off on Saturday and we come up short.

Hoping I'm proved wrong! But I am nervous about this one.

this team and these coaches are different.  SIU is a scoring machine.  However, UND defense has exceeded my expectations this year.  rush defense under 100 yards per game.  we have not seen that since DII days.  UND wins by running it down the saluki's throat.

I get the feeling they are due for a let down too but I also think this coaching staff deals with games like this differently and a let down won’t happen.

This game may come down to offense, defense will probably bend on not break (I am expecting limited big plays). Montana, our defense was on the field too much in the second half and they were able to put together some drives. If and when we get a multi score lead we need to limit their offensive big plays in the second half by us controlling the clock on offense.

You can already feel how different Schmidt is mentality-wise for road games and how he feels about our former struggles. To him it’s a box we checked and now we move on. Schmidt has the well play them in the parking lot for all I care and still win mentality. That rubs off on the guys. Now comes the real test of that. Remember, we’re still two years out on the roster.

Defense has been ahead of schedule in terms of turning it around. Yes, some transfers were brought in but you can see how the difference in mentality and scheme has made a big difference.

Tackling has improved a lot also, it’s great to see it (defense) play well on the road. For the longest time road games were blowout losses or track meets that we tend to lose.

AccuWeather hourly forecast for carbondale.

Carbondale, IL Hourly Weather | AccuWeather

Looks like it could get a little rough briefly - lightning is the key. Having experienced the extreme lightning storm (and delay) at the UND/Utah State game a few years ago I'm happy I decided to stay home and watch it. Will always remember how the Utah State students stayed in their seats during the hour+ downpour and lightning.
