Sioux95 Posted September 14 Posted September 14 Great game today. For a good chunk of the game this felt like old UND football, being able to rely on the defense to get stops. Turns out our d line is not going to be a liability and that should make any game we play the rest of the season winnable. Jerry didn't have his best game but I think he'll do nothing but get better the rest of the season. I think we took too many deep shots and in the second half. i would have liked to have seen us run the ball a little more, especially Z. I wonder if that's Jerry Autumn bullying into the deep throw when he sees single coverage with out a safety over the top? We were having some stretches where we were getting chunk yards on the ground on consecutive plays and and regardless of the potential to complete a big pass play, in a game like this, I think we would have been better off keeping the ball on the ground I'd like to see the formation where thetight end was covered... That penalty hurt. Future's bright at UND though! 4 Quote

Kab Posted September 14 Posted September 14 Ndsu hasn’t played anyone good yet sdsu didn’t blow drake out mont state beat San Diego bad UND has had the toughest schedule of anyone and can’t hold a lead the last 4 minutes , Eric, get that fixed Quote

Wilbur Posted September 14 Posted September 14 So I was today old when I learned the 3 second spike the ball rule in college. That being said we didn't have any timeouts and we throw it short with a chance to maybe get 3? So I owe Jerry an apology, and likewise he owes me one in return for the previous play. 1 Quote
MinnDak Posted September 14 Posted September 14 OC, DC, and ST Coordinators again show their true colors. The HC/DC spent past year taking credit for the previous administration and UND supporters upgrading facilities, recruits etc. Had a good opportunity to come out on top but continued 24 years of mediocrity but hey you beat Portland State. The FCS is terrible right now my goodness maybe take care of business. The process doesn’t matter if you don’t win. Last year at least Montana was a gritty win. Quote

LeaveNoDoubt Posted September 14 Posted September 14 Play calling all over the place. Got complacent in the second half. Z was running hard and getting yards up the middle but we continued to try give our speedy back looks between the tackles. Quote

Seems like a lot more concern that the spike might not complete in 3 seconds than an actual rule. I’m reasonable confident that I have seen teams spike the ball in that situation. regardless.. tough way to end a half Quote
gfhockey Posted September 14 Posted September 14 I’ve never seen the officials job a team before like that Quote

Kab Posted September 14 Posted September 14 I’m not sure why a player has to get close to the line when they are supposed to be off the line. what advantage is there to be 1 foot closer to the line 1 Quote

There is no guarantee that you can complete a spike with only 3 seconds left Quote

Coaching staff need a lot of work on game/clock management. Take the damn field goals and run the ball with the lead late when it's working. And putting the freshman DB on an island late wasn't the brightest move by rhe staff. 4 Quote

Brim006 Posted September 14 Posted September 14 Did I expect Schmidt to turn things around with only a spring camp and fall camp? No Did I expect we’d at least get the most out of the roster that he inherited and finally get rid of the numerous pee wee football level coaching mistakes? Yes Unfortunately it’s pretty clear the same loser culture is still lingering if not fully alive within the UND football program. I’ll continue to watch and follow as this season goes on but man did I lose confidence in this turnaround seeing the same old short falls we’re all too familiar with. And scary enough, I think what we saw yesterday was just as bad if not worse than the entire bubba era, with Rudy OC in a close 2nd. Bone head player mistakes are one thing but not recognizing the kicker issue last spring, not having even an ounce of 2 min drill abilities in 2/3 games already and the offense play calling is absurdly poor and embarrassing. That’s on the coaches. They’re showing so far they’re just trying not to lose still, and it’s backfiring as usual. Quote

However, I believe a Bubba led team would likely have been blown out in a road game in that environment, regardless of how good or bad Montana is. Quote
