Welcome to North Dakota Rocco Grimaldi!

Sounds like this kid could be a real stud on the offensive side of the ice, he seems to play older and bigger than he is.

The Portland Winterhawks of the WHL traded for Grimaldi's WHL rights today from the Vancouver Giants.

Don't know if this has been posted, but Andy Baggot out of Wisconsin is reporting it's "expected" Wisconsin decommit Jordan Schmaltz will wind up playing for North Dakota. Also, a poster at USCHO reported that Baggot indicated during a radio show that Schmaltz' family had stated North Dakota was the "best fit" for him.

That would be a huge pickup for the Sioux...but don't count out Major Juniors in Canada either for Schmaltz

Schmaltz has been getting "ink" for a long time:

True. But as Baggot reported, Schmaltz apparently wants to stay in the WCHA. As reported in Mikejm's link, Schmaltz' family holds season tickets in Wisconsin, and I think North Dakota was the only other WCHA school he visited. Let's hope for the best.

What kind of accomplishments does Schmaltz have? What level of competition? Has he participated on any select teams and done well? Any info would be great.

Hopefully Schmaltz will join UND. This was mentioned on June 23rd after he decommited from UW.

It has a link to the UW blog that has some info on him.

Schmaltz, a Verona, Wisconsin native committed to Wisconsin at 14 years old and before even entering high school. He most recently played with the Chicago Mission Midget program and is expected to play next season in the USHL with Sioux City. Schmaltz was committed for 2012.

Great to hear UW losing another stud recruit. Sounds like he committed way early, but I'm surprised hes decommitting from UW with him growing up a badger and his folks having season tickets. There lost our gain! Hopefully he still stays with college hockey though.

Schmaltz's dad played football for the Sioux. FWIW, I'd say it's more like 50/50 on Ohio State and UND. He decommitted for one reason, Osiecki leaving. Ohio State will be a player for this kid.

It was my impression that he wanted to stay in the WCHA. I assume could have changed his mind. My thought is why would you not join UW or UND and join Ohio State. I understand Osiecki is the coach now but they won't be close to a NC for at least 2-4years. I mean this is hockey not football. Being in the WCHA will probably give him a good shot at winning a NC. My opinion is that he goes to UND.

UND or OSU? That is the question. Its a no brainer to me, SIOUX! You're right too, this is hockey not football. OSU has a great football program, that why he should go to UND. If hes got the family ties to UND, it'll be an easy choice with his dad supporting the Sioux.
