Not saying we should be sounding any alarms, just think it's something to watch If the rumors of Carels to North Dakota rumors are true, this is exactly how I would have imagined the transfer portal going so far. The top pair LHD position is wide open and they do not seem super aggressive to fill it. Strathmann probably sticks around if the plan was for him to be getting top minutes, imo. At the very least, Bryn should be doing due diligence on Harper to see if he would come in after his draft year. UND will be thin at RHD after this season. Quote

No. The WHL champs won't be over until mid-May. Everything goes so much longer since they are all best of 7 series instead of single-elim. Quote

Definitely makes the game of recruit-dominoes interesting when you have the CHL on a completely different timeline - at least, as long as the kids don’t/feel comfortable announcing until their CHL season and career is over. Just waiting on the CHL commissioner to announce they’re extending their season into July as the next attempt to slow down CHL -> NCAA pathway. 🤣 Quote

Boser, Emery, Laurila, Verhoeff, Lindberg, MacKenzie & Carels = 7 D, with room for probably 2 more. The only player here that Boser would have a chance at beating out would be Lindberg, & that's not taking into consideration another veteran D that may be added through the portal. Currently it's 2 juniors, 2 sophomores & 3 freshmen (including Carels). Ideally another jr or sr D through the portal. Quote

If roster size limit stays at 26 for next season (which is an IF), then we'd be done at 8 D. Usually we're looking at 15/8/3. Doesn't leave a lot of room for injuries, which is why they're pushing to have that 26 number increased. That's a great looking group of 7D right there though. As Reschny said today...they'll be young, but really good. DU just won a title with a single SR Dman...it can be done. Let's go green. 3 Quote

The negative is that UND risks losing a couple of solid D every year due to lack of playing time. Quote

We only had 15/9/3 because Young was a designated player that didn't count against the 26 so we took in Engel late based on Zmolek's health. This won't be the case moving forward unless another transfer comes in that is the same designation and doesn't count against the 26 player roster cap. Quote

brianvf Posted yesterday at 03:53 PM Posted yesterday at 03:53 PM JJ would be a great snag for sure. I just assumed he was heading to WI being from there. But getting a proven goal scorer from a tough conference would be great. Quote

It's also hard when you're talking top 10 (and even top 5) picks because you don't know for sure if they'll even be playing in college until you see who drafts them. Obviously a lot of NHL orgs have come around to the NCAA route but there are still a few that if they draft Verhoeff or Carels top 5 that you worry about. It really feels like Carels is going to be at North Dakota unless the team that drafts him just wants to sign him right away. It will be interesting to see if he'll commit before that or wait. It makes Bryn's job that much harder (and really makes you respect a guy like Tyler Young that was willing to wait so long) 3 Quote

AJS Posted yesterday at 07:24 PM Posted yesterday at 07:24 PM I do think there’s some level of value you can pick up from social media, how much is up for debate. Both Carels & Belchetz liked the Reschny is returning post. 1 2 Quote

I did notice he liked a frozen four related post from “uofnorthdakota” last week while it came across my feed. Reschny returning certainly helps UND’s chances with any potential targets. He’s one of the best returning players in the NCAA next season. 1 Quote
burd Posted 23 hours ago Posted 23 hours ago Is the draft a timing consideration for any announcement from Verhoff? Quote

Yeah I'd imagine he'd want to discuss with whatever team drafts him before making any official statement. I can't imagine a team wanting him to sign right away...one more NCAA year would do wonders for him. 1 Quote
