UNDBIZ Posted yesterday at 12:49 AM Posted yesterday at 12:49 AM Didn't Bohl or Klieman sign a new contract right before leaving as well? Basically just secured extra money for ndsu from Wyoming/ Kansas St for a buyout. 1 Quote

This notion is laughable because the B1G has academic standards. Nebraska is the worst school in the league and they’re ranked 152 nationally and have elite athletic heritage and big boosters. NDSU ranks 232 as a school and has no cache in comparison and is in a market that is unmeasurably small. 1 Quote

We hopefully have learned from the early 2000s. Can’t be left behind again. Cut some salary from Dane Jackson and give it to Schmidty and his staff. The arms race in division I collegiate athletics ain’t with hockey, I’m afraid, and UND is primed to potentially screw up a second time in the past quarter century if leadership and boosters don’t step up and use their brain … 2 Quote

Careful, we don't want Imperial Cass County boosters coming here to dispute your description of their market size as being "small". Quote

Nothing small-minded about understanding the realities of geography, the market size of Grand Forks and that College football is about as financially balanced as MLB, and in in FBS, we would be the Pirates and not the Yankees or Dodgers. It's more likely that a lot of the smaller conferences get sent packing. TV only cares about the big brands and the FBS is controlled by the conferences not the NCAA. Very like that a private equity fueled super league is on the horizon. Preparing for that eventuality makes sense. Quote

Very like that a private equity fueled super league is on the horizon. Preparing for that eventuality makes sense. Geography means very little anymore, from the FBS to the FCS to the NCHC, there are several examples of this. If you can pay the bills, you can be in the conference. Grand Forks certainly has geographic disadvantages, but I would argue it is in fact small-minded to exclude potential advancement and reorganization based purely on that. Not wanting to aggressively compete with the Fargo-Moorhead area and beyond is arguably one of UND’s biggest flaws; you can’t just be niche and opportunistic. You have to take some chances. There’s no question that reorganization in college football is upcoming. The timeline is fluid, but whether UND athletics would be the Pirates (more likely) or the Yankees (less likely), they need to be prepared to make a hard decision financially. Conservatively bowing out echoes the early 2000s, significantly, and the fact some can’t see that is a concerning ignorance towards historical precedent. 1 Quote
