I don't think he'll take it.

With how much an NHL team has to pay Western Michigan ($2.5 million?) and how invested he's been into the new arena.

He interviewed for a reason.  The time to strike is when the fire is hot, the opportunities won't always be there.

What is Wisconsin's objective going forward? Are they going full older grinders that Hastings loved at Minnesota State, will they be going heavy after all of the CHLers, both high end skill and depth/culture guys, will they try to go hard after the top end NTDP/USHL talent, or a mix of all of these?

Hard to see Wisconsin reviving the CHL pipeline anytime soon.  Their staff is all Americans, and only 1 player on the roster is from Canada directly (and not from the Transfer Portal).

I hope I'm right.

A generation ago, Gino Gasparini and Bob Johnson went head to head on a lot of recruits ...

Rumors on HFBoards that Penn State is offering a ton of money to high end CHLers. This had been hinted at Jeff Marek in his blog last month. Penn State has a ton of wealthy alums across the country, especially in the Northeast/Mid-Atlantic region. We will see if their Frozen Four run can turn them into an up & coming power.

How many of them care about hockey? It's always been a FB first school.

Seeing Charlie Coyle botch coverage just now (might cost them the series!) reminded me how he was a blue chip who bolted mid season. What happens when someone getting a bag of cash goes to MJ at the semester? The only sport that has another league as an alternative; will be interesting.

Basketball has European Pro options, just like hockey. Baseball has signing right out of HS & playing minor pro, 30-50% of the top players don't play NCAA baseball. (plenty of Caribbeans/South Americans develop at home & just sign at 16/17 years old)

The big bag of cash is not going to come from major junior, it would come in the form of an ELC with bonuses from the NHL team holding their rights

Pegula money, just like how their program was started.

I meant blue chips getting NIL then leaving mid season.

Do top players in those sports leave at semester? I truly only pay attention to hockey so if it happens I'm oblivious to it.

From what I’ve read, with accepting NIL funds there are contractual obligations. How those obligations are structured and what they cover, I don’t have a clue. There should be some protections for leaving prior to the end of the season for both parties. Don’t pay them the biggest chunk til the end of the season. It would be interesting to see what is covered and considered in a contract for NIL.

If I was paying a player $100k, it would be spread out over equal monthly payments for the season. If he bolts the payments stop. Or I would do the payments on a per game played basis. Say $2k per game. Payments made at the end of each month based on number of games played previous month. Something like that to protect myself.
