When I was out there, several Broncos fans expressed their displeasure to moving games off campus and away from Lawson arena. They are loud, crude, obnoxious and I say all of this in the most positive way. They rock the house there. Yah, Lawson is kinda dumpy by today’s standards but man, what an amazing atmosphere! Reason I got out there this season was word they were building a fancy new barn and I just had to experience the Lunatics first hand and it lived up to my expectations 100%! My wife gave me a hall pass to get out there as Lawson has been on my short list of arenas I’ve been wanting to visit. 2 3 Quote

The thing is, Western Michigan isn't really a rival of UND's. Yet. Maybe that comes later. I feel it's always right to cheer for a program to win their first. I was happy for Duluth when they won their first couple, but after that I got sick of them. 5 Quote

It makes us better throughout the season, it helps with recruiting for all NCHC teams, and it makes a huge difference in post-season success(7 of the last 9 titles). If conference success didn’t matter, we may as well be in the AHA right? 4 Quote

Not only that, but a lot of it is who they are playing against. BU, BC, Michigan, Minnesota, and other elite bigger schools are already getting most of the super elite players, and if they start winning championships it might get even harder to pull some of them away from the top schools. 2 Quote
Popular Post .357 Posted April 13 Popular Post Posted April 13 From someone on X who was quoting Herb Brooks: "Not looking for the best players, looking for the right players." The right players adhering to their system trumps a team full of 1st rounders who rely more on individual players, as demonstrated yet again by Western tonight. The NCHC is the model that the HEA & B10 should be emulating, but their coaches are stuck in the mindset that a team full of mercenaries is more important than a well-structered team with the right players. And Ferschweiler & Carle know this too. Ferschweiler put on a masterclass tonight about how a coach should act in his most pressure-filled game of the year: laughing & joking with his players before the game; exuding total confidence & belief that his team would win. Cool Hand Luke he was in their biggest game of the year. 1 7 Quote
.357 Posted April 13 Posted April 13 The HEA & B10 may have more elite players overall, but the NCHC has the better coaches. Pandolfo & Co. got taken behind the woodshed tonight by Ferschweiler & Herter. And if anyone's wondering what all that weird noise coming from Boston is, it's the sound of hundreds of thousands of NIL money being flushed down the toilet on Commonwealth Ave. 3 Quote

UND hockey fans can thank UND hockey fans for the great coverage. 1 Quote

Cratter Posted April 13 Posted April 13 NCHC had the top two teams in the country yet again. Sad reality is no other college hockey conference is even close to competing with the NCHC. Quote

Thank you for knocking off Denver and BU on your way to the Natty. Now let's get Herter to Grand Forks. I like everything you said except the part about Herter going to Grand Forks. Let's keep him in Kalamazoo. Quote

I was initially a very vocal critic of moving out of Lawson for the reasons you've talked about. I'm a bit skeptical that we can recreate that atmosphere in a new building. We've seen it with new arenas in college hockey. It's just not the same as the old barns. Maybe, Fersch is selling me on something that isn't reality, but he's talked about how he wants to keep the good parts of Lawson: low ceiling & not going overboard with capacity. They've been flying to all the college arenas in the donor's private jet trying to capture the best things. I'm now pretty excited. And let's be honest, after what just happened on the ice, I'll run through a wall for Fersch. So, new arena it is!! 3 Quote
