He's not very good at it, but I'm completely OK with that.   We're not looking for a politician here.   If he's good one-on-one with players, recruits and coaches and good with the team in pressured game situations, I'm happy.  He has a civic responsibility as well, where public speaking is required, but if he's honest, it'll work out.

I agree , I think he looked much more comfortable in the Q and A part.  I was just surprised he wasn't more polished as I haven't seen him speak much

He is even uncomfortable in the 1 minute standard intermission interview between periods.

The most significant things said all related to...

~Finding the right guys who want to battle for UND and want to be held accountable.

~Getting back to what he has seen work at the college and pro level, which is a dedication to doing things right every day, without a day where that mindset does not exist.

This may not exactly be "modern" in terms of what some kids want, but it certainly can be an approach that works, if they truly get the right recruits that will stick around and work hard enough.  It blew me away in March when Berry was talking about going light in practice to keep guys fresh.  They only play two games a week in college - that would be more valid it they played an 80+ game schedule, but not in the NCAA's.

I'm good with that but there could be good options the experts on this board aren't aware of, so we'll see how it shakes out.

Agreed, but he ought to be welcoming also to 1st rounders who will only be at UND 1-2 years.

I don't think he precludes that.  I think he's talking about getting guys who are committed to being here.  if they are good enough to go pro after 2, so be it.  But let's not take a guy who is going to go to another program because he didn't get PP time.

Those guys cost money in the "modern" world.

Truth

Also, it will not change that in college hockey, an average "man" can be as effective as a young future superstar.  The physical and mental maturity, the experience playing against mature men, are all talent levelers.

You can't win without talent, but juniors and seniors are almost necessary to end of the year success.  See some of the recent past Boston teams full of "blue chippahs".

Had very little time with Jackson, will transcribe his quotes ASAP.

I asked him about wearing the fish bowls and he said this, “Yeah, that's kind of a players rule, so I don't have a problem against it, if they want to. I guess we'll have to talk to our leaders and see if that's something they may, you know, crack the tradition on.”

Thought Jackson did fine, it's awesome that he'll be bringing in a GM type of staff to oversee all the complexities of recruiting & player development. Of course his results will have to outweigh his promises, but UND hockey appears to be back on track again.

Thought it odd though that Jamernik was also in attendance, sitting behind the current players but in that general area. I thought he would be long gone by now as he seemed to do more dividing than uniting in the locker room.

Now this guy is asking the real questions.

How do you plan to manage the CHL, USHL NAHL etc?

Jax: We're gonna really try to be really present in Western Canada. Yeah, I've always had good players out there, and there's a whole new market there. So we're gonna do a good job knowing all the players Well, and, and, but we, but we won't. You know our the Midwest is important for us. You know Minnesota is important for us. We'll make sure we're doing a great job knowing the players. So to me, it's not so much about where they are, what league they're in, is, are they the right guys? Do they bring the values we're looking for? Are they guys that are kind of connected to our program?”

Is this all that he said regarding the CHL and recruiting all 3 CHL leagues?

How will you get your team to play a full 60?

"I think it kind of goes back to that process. Just saying, I remember, Oshie talking about their great teams in Washington, and he just said, you know, they had really good players, but they had a great system, and they really believed in it. So even if they got down in the series, down in games, they just kind of had so much belief that they're not gonna, they weren't gonna start like cheating for offense or doing things outside of the system. They just said, Hey, if we, if we roll for 60 in this way, we'll have a great chance to win, even if we don't score first or second, you know, they might get up a couple on us, if we just kind of believe in what we're doing. You know, the vast majority of times we're gonna, you know, be there in the end."
