RhettRingers Posted April 17 Posted April 17 @NoDak Hockey Nation is right. It is down to Malone or Smaby. More than likely will be Smaby. Quote

I don’t know if ferschwiler gets an NHL look this offseason as Carle is still higher on the totem pole, but him and Pandolfo are next. Best chance for him at taking over a high level program is by staying put. Quote

Don't understand the rationale for having 2 defensive specialists in both Smaby & Simpson. Malone would seem the wiser choice, plus he probably has more connections in Canada than Smaby. 2 Quote

I don’t understand continuing BBs preference for players who do not play a full 60 and a staff that doesn’t recruit a full 362. I guess those who say there is still a divided locker room must know what they’re talking about. Quote

If we don't have enough connections in Canada with Jackson, Chyzyk and Simpson, then what is another one going to add. They have some pretty good players in the U.S. as well, and we haven't been able to get as many of them as you would think we could/should. 1 Quote

I don't know if Smaby is the best guy or not, but he's from Minneapolis, played at SSM, and is coaching in the USHL (plus he played in Europe). We do need some US connections because the US kids are really good. Look at how many USNDT players get drafted in the 1st round. Those are the kids that Michigan, BC, BU and UM have been getting. 1 Quote

If this is true, then the whole process is basically a sham. The job doesn't close until Monday, and already we have a guy picked? If they keep going down this route, good luck trying to get someone outside the circle to apply for any job. So put all the "supposed" candidates through the "process" to pretend you are open to all the candidates? Quote

Yeah, those guys are flashy and all but none of those schools have the hardware the last ten years to back it up. Still need to go after the guys that hate to lose more than they like to win. Smaby has also coached the USA World Junior A Challenge team the last few years, I'm personally not big on either but I guess time will tell. 1 Quote

cberkas Posted April 17 Posted April 17 I’d take Smaby over Malone because of coaching experience. This whole process just hasn’t been good. Just better not be more of the same. I wouldn’t be surprised if Western Michigan gives Herter a raise with a buyout to keep him there. Quote
