Technically open through Monday, correct??

Yes, I think Herter makes the move if they don't win the title. Tough to leave a program that you helped win the big one.

Might as well stick around there for another year. I don’t know if ferschwiler gets an NHL look this offseason as Carle is still higher on the totem pole, but him and Pandolfo are next. Best chance for him at taking over a high level program is by staying put.

@NoDak Hockey Nation is right. It is down to Malone or Smaby. More than likely will be Smaby.

Don't understand the rationale for having 2 defensive specialists in both Smaby & Simpson. Malone would seem the wiser choice, plus he probably has more connections in Canada than Smaby.

Very tough to get the Ontario kids to leave Michigan and Hockey East though.

Would've been the same thing with Herter.

I don’t understand continuing BBs preference for players who do not play a full 60 and a staff that doesn’t recruit a full 362.  I guess those who say there is still a divided locker room must know what they’re talking about.

If we don't have enough connections in Canada with Jackson, Chyzyk and Simpson, then what is another one going to add.   They have some pretty good players in the U.S. as well, and we haven't been able to get as many of them as you would think we could/should.

I agree with this 100%. I don't know if Smaby is the best guy or not, but he's from Minneapolis, played at SSM, and is coaching in the USHL (plus he played in Europe). We do need some US connections because the US kids are really good. Look at how many USNDT players get drafted in the 1st round. Those are the kids that Michigan, BC, BU and UM have been getting.

Some very high end talent on Oshawa this year...

The high-enders have already signed their NHL deals though...Sennecke, Marrelli, Ritchie already signed their deals.

If this is true, then the whole process is basically a sham.  The job doesn't close until Monday, and already we have a guy picked?   If they keep going down this route, good luck trying to get someone outside the circle to apply for any job.  So put all the "supposed" candidates through the "process" to pretend you are open to all the candidates?

Yeah, those guys are flashy and all but none of those schools have the hardware the last ten years to back it up. Still need to go after the guys that hate to lose more than they like to win. Smaby has also coached the USA World Junior A Challenge team the last few years, I'm personally not big on either but I guess time will tell.

Just noticed that, I don't know what to think honestly. Hopefully Chyz is out there being his best door to door salesman.

I’d take Smaby over Malone because of coaching experience. This whole process just hasn’t been good. Just better not be more of the same.

I wouldn’t be surprised if Western Michigan gives Herter a raise with a buyout to keep him there.

Based on the hirings this year & years past, it shouldn't surprise anyone that the associate position would go to someone with UND connections.

If the choice is between Malone and Smaby, I'm taking Malone.

Playing Devil's Advocate, if they choose Smaby, I assume Chyzyk had something to say about it since he is the coach of the team Chyzyk managed.
