Scotty Posted Monday at 10:14 PM Posted Monday at 10:14 PM Can someone provide the pros for Raboin? I’m definitely in the young, inspiring hire camp, but I don’t know much about him. I get he was on staff for some successful teams at St. Cloud and Minny, but it’s always difficult to know how much impact an assistant has. Quote

Conquered UND in an exhibition game earlier this year. 🤣 He has an upstart Augustana team relevant already while starting from scratch. I’m no Rabion expert, but I think you would have to take a look if he was interested. 3 Quote
Kab Posted Monday at 10:22 PM Posted Monday at 10:22 PM Schloss needs to get the buyouts for hockey and women’s bb to see how much UND is on the hook for. Schloss, have this done in the morning tom can help you 1 Quote

Doesn’t have a ton of talent but swept CC at Robson and Omaha at Baxter. Of course getting players that have had to work their tails off to get to this level to begin with, and getting talented guys that could get by with a bit less effort to do the same might be a little more difficult, but he seems well respected by players and that will go a long ways in on ice performance. 1 Quote

Why not though? If the only reason to get the hire done this week is because of the transfer portal, then that’s extremely shortsighted. If there’s a coach in the tourney who wants to apply, then interview them when their team is eliminated. Why limit yourself simply because you might miss out on a few players in the short term? Do we want to win next year or the next 10-15 years? 3 Quote

Good point, that is why Jackson is the interim, so he can keep contact with current recruits and players and identify transfer portal guys who could possibly be a fit if they don’t rush into picking a team. As a player he was the heart, soul, and tone setter of some SCSU teams that were not very talented, but did overachieve. Two year captain and played a fifth year on a medical redshirt. Played a few years in Europe. Was an assistant and GM/recruiter type for a number of excellent SCSU teams under Motzko before taking the same job at Minnesota. Been on successful WJC staffs. Took the head job at Augustana which started up from scratch and has them competitive instantly. Also worked the alumni to which he has no connection to get a brand new arena. As a person, I’ve met him but don’t know him, but people who do say he’s truly the real deal. Genuine, hard working, salt of the earth guy. He’s from Detroit Lakes and played there in HS so a regional connection. He’s been recruiting the same territory as UND for years. Wife is a UND grad. I’d be shocked if they hired him but if he was offered the job I think he would be silly to say no. If it goes right, that’s an if, this could be a home run and a guy who is at UND for 25 years. 8 Quote

UNDhoops Posted Monday at 10:44 PM Posted Monday at 10:44 PM raboin is top of my list personally. the rest of the candidates sound like short term solutions (and maybe we need that given the nosedive the program has taken) but raboin could be around for forever Quote

Pump It Up Posted Monday at 10:47 PM Posted Monday at 10:47 PM I want/wanted Raboin for SCSU but he was still too green when Motzko bolted and they’d be insane to move from Larson so I hope he doesn’t get the UND gig. And I don’t think Chaves has the level of foresight to make the move anyway. But it could be a Carle like hire. Quote

I think UND needs a reset to the days under Blais when they had to work hard to compete. With how many good players there are now, you need even your most talented guys to work hard. I look at Western and see the Blais teams before they were able to get the high draft picks, and they just play hard and together as a team. I think Raboin could help us with that reset, and with a few more ties to USA hockey. 1 Quote

I won’t go back and edit but I should have mentioned - he’s young and will totally adapt to the NIL and portal stuff. I’m guessing some of the older/experienced guys will struggle with that. Including Hak. Quote
