Nothing could get worse at this point. UND athletics as a whole is in complete shambles right now given the history and size of school...and that's not even mentioning the top tier facilities. I've lost interest in all programs as of a few years ago. Big changes would show they're serious about being relevant, and would pull folks like myself back in again. Look at the excitement around football already. Now imagine hockey and basketball if new coaching upgrades came in. 1 Quote

The cherry on top of the sundae of success was Faison’s peer designation as the 2016-17 Under Armour Football Championship Subdivision Athletics Director of the Year. Faison retired December 2017 Coaches were Schweigert, Berry, Jones, Brewster and Pryor. Quote

With the recent ramp up in investments/support/facilities over the last 2-3 years, expectations have increased. It is what is is and I assume that is what people want. Quote

Expand The problem is he waits until its so bad that he has no other choice, when the coach shows him year after year that nothing is getting better..... all while handing out extensions. 1 Quote

Expand My question is why are all of these sports struggling? At some point it is a culture issue that starts with the AD. And on top of all our sports struggling there is also the Title 9 investigation that is happening on Chaves watch. If there was ever a time for a new leader it is now. Quote

Expand Probably a fair observation, particularly in a few cases. Expectations should be based on support for programs and the coach's ability to sell what they are doing is heading in the right direction. Some extensions could definitely be shorter. Some should probably include a significantly smaller buyout option as a trade-off (looking directly at the football one for that). Starting to think the need to extend coaches earlier because "we don't want to lose players" is falling by the wayside. With the portal, your roster is in constant flux anyway. Not an excuse to extend coaches early anymore. All student-athletes are basically one-year free agents at this point. The timing on these contracts coming up isn't a coincidence with some decisions made in 2020 and 2021. A new president who sees the value in athletics is pushing things in the right direction. Armacost is an amazing asset for UND and he understands what athletics can do for the University. If he's OK with the plans being laid out, I'm going to trust his judgment. If he is unhappy, he'll make the necessary change. Don't believe there is any merit to the Title IX investigation other than some people being upset about softball getting a new facility but that's just my take from reading through the complaint and talking to people who are closer to the situation. Similar to the WIH complaint that went absolutely nowhere. If there is merit to it and there are adverse findings, I would change my opinion on it. But filing a complaint doesn't mean there is anything actually to it. Haven't seen any updates on it, so has it even gone anywhere? 1 Quote

Expand I don’t know enough about Title IX or about the soccer field to know how good or bad it is. Driving by the high school fields they look better than the UND soccer field but those fields also have other teams using them so naturally would be nicer when football plays there. I think the big piece is that during Chaves tenure at UND sports have generally got worse, all of a sudden there is a shotgun reaction of firing multiple coaches which to me suggests the problem lies above a department full of bad head coaches, and the cherry on top is a Title IX complaint. is there an athletic department in the country in a worse state currently regarding leadership?
