Sitting a speedy, high-energy guy like Croal who could have played 10 minutes & shadowed the 1 player who beat UND last night, Alex Bump, in favor of Montgomery who played less than a minute, tells you everything you need to know about the mental state of the head coach... the team coming out soft & uninspired to start the 2nd after a great 1st; the team is simply incapable of being consistent going back to last year...the D playing no better now in mid-January than in early Oct...Welcome to UND hockey. And if Kunz plays tonight, with no consequences for his causing the loss, that'll just be icing on the proverbial cake.

Who recruits the players who can't score, who commit bad penalties & who have too many flaws? Everything is downstream from the HC.

What was Jammer's consequence for taking that major last weekend?

Maybe starring in the video clip of the snowy hockey weather was made more unpleasant by withholding the marshmallows from the hot cocoa?

Had been said in multiple series threads prior to today..... "This is a must win".

Unfortunately getting close to that phase not mattering the rest of the regular season.

Spitballing here.....who could center a line with Littler and Strinden? IMO Littler isn't getting enough ice time and last night was Ben's best game in weeks.

I've switched to steel toed boots from kicking the dead horse but how about OMac?? Centers to big high motor guys with offensive upside.

Top line same as last night

James Sasha Wilkie

Kunz Schmaltz Jammer

Are those marshmallows the little ones?  Dammit!

22 needs to be a healthy scratch.   Talking of accountability, 22 has talent but plays with no grit.  He has too many turnovers, gets rubbed off the puck easily, and is a defensive liability. AND, 50/50 pucks, the opposing team will beat 22 every time.  If struggling, play hard in other aspects of the game?  How many opportunities can be given to a player (22)?    Little Woodenboy has shared is thoughts, to which I concur.

Does have the feeling that this is the first true must win of the season*.

*From having a realistic chance at making a run at an at large bid standpoint.

My biggest issue is how soft some of our big guys play.  The biggest guy on the ice is a teddy bear and loses battles on the wall continuously, and doesnt miss a shift.  And every single game its really only a matter of time in for our team to take 10-15 minutes off and then we hear "not a full sixty again".

A win tomorrow night over #7 WMU could sure do wonders.
Make it happen boys.

1st period they looked good.  Came out sloppy in the 2nd and they got burned.
Need to do a better job at clearing the zone.

I think this is a must win no?

There’s a first time for everything. Was the timing of the penalty so bad, combined with his play last night where Kunz sits tonight? Kunz out, Croal in. Imo, that would actually light a spark.

Btw if there is no lineup change or it’s Littler out and Croal in, the players that are actually giving effort deserve so much better than this coaching staff.

That crowd isn’t saying those games don’t matter. That crowd is saying that LOOKING at the pairwise in November isn’t helpful because the math is too volatile. Everyone knows that a game in October carries the same importance as the games in February.

Breaking news. UND was around 20th in the PWR when it was "too volatile". Since it's no longer volatile, UND still sits around 20.

@brianvf.....are you and BB still having your one on one by the smoothie machine in the locker room at 300 pm to iron out the long list of SS.com grievances??

Those smoothies are so good!
Once it hits your lips, you almost forget the list of grievances.

I'll go over the list and then give him a few minutes in the zero gravity bed to digest it.

This is pretty brutal:

Quote

UND’s penalty kill has struggled this season.

The Fighting Hawks are 53rd in the country with a .753 penalty kill percentage.

Opponents have scored 18 power-play goals this season, putting UND in the top 10 in the country in power-play goals allowed. The Fighting Hawks have allowed more power-play goals than any other National Collegiate Hockey Conference team this season.

Over the last four games, opponents have gone 5-for-12 on the power play against UND.
