Jacks had six to start the year. 1 SR, 2 JR, the other three were freshmen or redshirt freshmen. Granted they were the defending champs. USD 2 juniors and 2 frosh. NDSU 4.

If I would guess, need better competition, fit what is to be run and anticipating possible transfers.

We had 4 on roster last fall, I do not think we lost any, we signed one on signing day, and picked up another in the portal. I do believe we have six, that could change this Spring.

Aside from the O-Line and a couple of RBs, there isn't one player that can't be replaced with someone better.

You think it’ll look drastically different than the normal turnover? The math isn’t going to check out unless we see 10+ players enter the portal tomorrow.

Have you followed the portal? Some really unrealistic expectations about the reach from the portal for FCS programs.

What does it mean when our players are committing to 2025 with the 1883 shirts?  Are they signing something and accepting their scholarship? Can they still enter the portal in the spring without the school releasing them?

I know that there will be a flood of FBS players in the portal because of the new roster limits. And my comment was more about the dearth of talent on the team right now. If we wanted to keep almost all of our current players, we could have just kept Bubba.

It is going to take more than 1 year to turn this defense around. They have been awful for two seasons. If we are slightly below average or average next year that is a win IMO.

Agree 100%. But I think a talent upgrade in a few well-placed positions could make the defense noticeably better.

Do you think we’ll see considerably more additions more the portal in the next few weeks? If so, then I could see Spring ball having more of a “playing for a roster spot” for more positional groups. Otherwise, outside of LB and QB, again, I don’t think there’s much more attrition than normal. We’ll see.

Spring portal is when the bigger schools players start to realize that they are passed up on depth chart by younger players and/or NIL funds aren’t what they were expecting. Big programs are becoming more analytical and similar to NFL teams in allocating payroll(NIL). For example they may have 12% budget for DT and have two studs that will get lions share of that which leaves 5th best DT with almost nothing and looking for new home.

It’s been reported he signed a deal with Miami I think but he signed two weeks before the season ended and the transfer portal opened

And maybe that is the one who does all the blocking so the LB get the sacks.
