2024 - 421 yards/game and 29.5 points

They were pretty bad the year before too in their familiar scheme

If he is a systems coach, he will need to hit the portal hard for players that fit his scheme.

Or will he be a coach that adapts the scheme to the players he has.

We will see what happens.

Potential WR to target? Had 32 catches for 422 yards and 25 carries for 152 yards his RS Freshman season at SIU.

Up to this point, haven’t noticed a difference in type of portal offer from previous years. Hoping for that to change shortly.

Is it that good players that fit the mold just don't want to come here? What if these higher level players don't even view UND as an option and that's why we don't see many offers being sent to the FBS portal guys? Don't know if that is the case, just asking the questions. (Not specific to this year)

You can't (I suppose you could but makes no sense) offer a player that has 0 interest in your program.

I am guessing that we are not the school of choice between the four Dakota schools. That is what needs to change.

It would be nice not to have to Google the school to see what Division they are in for the majority of these offers. With the new roster cap of 105, isn’t there a ridiculous amount of FBS players needing homes? Realize I’m not actually responding to your message and I can’t answer your questions.

I’m also not talking about offering 5 star transfers. Btw, these early portal offers were a large reason why I was hesitant on Freuchte and it makes me hope even more Schmidt really shakes up this coaching staff. Enough.

To be fair, I’d been frustrated with the early offers so far and this last one put me over the top. The portal commits last year were largely a bust. So far, I see no difference.

Agree completely. I was just trying to look at it from a different perspective that maybe that is why we aren't seeing offers out to the type of players that we should be offering. Maybe they just haven't been interested in the past. Like @SiouxFan100 said, I would guess out of the 4 Dakota schools I'd be willing to bet for the majority of good recruits we would be #4 on that list.

I hope that changes with Bubba out and Schmidt leading the charge. And I think it will change. I think a lot of players that fit the mold will begin to see UND as a legit option with Schmidt as HC. Might not be year 1 but year 2 and on we should really see a change in the type of players that are offered.

Cripes, Schmidt has barely unpacked his suitcase and we are already complaining about who we are offering in the portal. Let's just watch the process play out.
