Berg is playing, everyone else still out. Per Berry’s press conference today.

Yep, good to hear that Berg is back but sucks for the d-corps having three out still.
Monty dressing as a dman again.

No timetables on returns for Zmolek, Strathmann, Croal, or Komzak in this article...that's probably not a good sign.

Glad to hear Berg is playing. The team really needs Zmolek back too.

Right?!  He got in one game and then has been out the rest of the season.  Need him back sooner rather than later...

Yeah Berry’s comments a couple weeks ago about Zmolek needing ongoing testing was some dark foreshadowing that it’s either very long-term or season ending

So once a roster is set for the year (15-8-3), a team cannot add to it if there is a season-ending loss to a D or F during the year, but a team can bring in a goalie from a club team for a goalie injury?

And can a team carry more than 26 or 27 players in a year, or is there an NCAA regulation against that? If so, what is the maximum number of players a team can have?

The team could add another player, but they would have to enroll in school by a certain date in order to be eligible this semester.  That's why the new goalie from the club team is eligible, because he was already enrolled at UND.
If they added a player before semester break, then that player could start playing during the 2nd half of the season.  UND has done that before (Siembida, etc).

Too lazy to look....how games played and games missesmd for Zmolek so far at UND?

https://www.collegehockeynews.com/players/career/Bennett-Zmolek/58028

Looks like he played 28 of 44 games his 1st season at Mankato (not sure how many of those missed games were due to injury though).
Then missed his entire Soph season.
Last season at UND he played 33 of 40 games.
This season he's played one of 7.

I love the way the kid plays the game, but it sure leads to him sustaining a ton of injuries.

Good to know, thanks.

Boisvert seems to be thriving as a freshman, he's gelling with James & Perron & will probably put up respectable numbers if he stays healthy. He's already acclimated to the college game.

Other teams usually bring their 'A' games against UND & play a tighter game against us. Plus UND usually doesn't preach a run-&-gun game.

Coming into the year, it was thought that this team would have 3 scoring lines.

Don't ignore the we ran into a hot goalie factor.

He’s only played in one game so far this year? Geezus christmas.

It’s November, he’s not playing this weekend and bringing him back in against a rival in the Denver series could be a challenge.

Ugh, bring him back in 2nd half and bring a D in at semester time too.

People mock how UND keeps bringing in a goalie in the transfer, but looking at how many D UND has brought in from the portal from Ty Farmer to Jandric and onward… Seems like we have a D-recruiting and measuring talent issue.

I'm thinking that if Zmolek were week-to-week, or at least returning in the near future, that Berry would have said so. That's usually his M.O. during press conferences. The fact that he was mum on his return leads me to believe that he could miss a lot more time, as he usually volunteers the timeline for returning without being asked.

What concerns me about Zmolek is originally it seemed like he was close to playing in the Mankato series, but then a little bit later Berry started talking about additional testing they are doing to determine how long he will be out, which was weeks ago. If they don’t know what is wrong by now, that’s super concerning.

It went from week-to-week after Providence, to additional testing, & now to nothing, just that's he's not playing.

If it were an injury like a fracture or a pulled muscle, that would be obvious through an x-ray or MRI & there would already be a timeline for his return. Perhaps it's clotting or inflammation that's not going away, something more ambiguous than a broken bone.

Now that the team is hanging together by a thread, I guess we'll find out about their character; it's gut-check time. Will they continue to fold, or will they find resolve through adversity? UMD & DU: thinking they need to win at least 3/4 to regain some PWR stability after last weekend. Don't want to be on the bubble come March, hoping other teams win so you can sneak into the tourney.

Prediction: We're coming away with at least 4/6 points this weekend to get some momentum back. Win and a tie followed by a shootout loss since we can't score on a breakaway no matter how much time is available.  In the tie game we will dominate play and outshoot them by 7 or more shots but won't be able to get the winner in regulation. Even with the boys being very dinged up on the back end I feel confident going into this weekend.

Career ending injury?

Not what I'm hearing, but basically it's not healing like they expected. Trying to figure out the recovery process. Getting opinions. Hasn't skated and really isn't close.

That's no good, for sure...especially if he can't even skate at all.

Thinking we bring in Laurila at semester break then?  Or another body?

Bringing in Laurila, we'd need to be careful. We HAVE TO be sure we have guys who are gonna be out for a bit because frankly, it would be a disaster to have him come in and sit the bench because people healed up. Plus, that's a very awkward conversation with Fargo, who's rapidly becoming a the best team in the USHL and a pipeline that we MUST keep open, that we're going to take your best player. I'm thinking Matt Cullen's son....
