People wonder if him going away would hurt recruiting but at this point, for this team, him staying might hurt as much or worse. Open discussions among players about desires to transfer out, and if that happens does that also scare away incoming recruits? Are you saying you've heard this? Quote
SIOUXELEVENS Posted February 10 Author Posted February 10 If and I say if then Berry needs to step down at seasons end. Quote

This current team of Berry’s is lost, their captain isn’t a leader and their coach is lost. Some play like their life depends on it and others try to get by on talent alone. There weren’t any “chippahs” on the 96-97 team. Before you say “what about Jason Blake”, remember he was undrafted and started his college career at Ferris State, so no one knew how good he was going to be. Quote

You want some first rounders with the understanding that you'll have them for two years tops. Quote
yzerman19 Posted February 11 Posted February 11 So.....winning the natty is a combination of team, talent, coaching, and luck. Getting to the Frozen Four is team, talent, and coaching. Quote

SIOUXELEVENS Posted February 11 Author Posted February 11 That would be a disaster to lose good players and or recruits. Quote

yzerman19 Posted February 11 Posted February 11 when's the last time we landed the prize of the class? Sanderson probably....before that it was Toews and before that Parise Quote
yzerman19 Posted February 11 Posted February 11 not knocking Boeser or Schmaltz or Zajac or Stafford or whomever, they were chippahs too, but not THE prize Quote

But I think even then, Grimaldi was probably thought to be the prize, but since he was so small he wasn't as high in NHL draft circles. Quote

He was supposed to go to Sconny...I think he had a cousin/uncle that went there in the early 2000's.(Dan Boeser) The Badgers were just coming off the 2014-15 season where they only won 4 games. He opened up his recruiting and I believe it was Hakstol that convinced him that Grand Forks was where he needed to be. Mike Eaves probably should have been shown the door after that season but coached one more year. (UW won 8 games in 2015-16) So a program in freefall loses a prize recruit which directly impacted the Sioux march to title #8. 1 1 Quote

They are still trying to recover from that. 2 Quote

I won't share any names because who knows absolutely how serious any comments might be, but a couple of the names I've heard are people we don't want leaving. Heard some other things about player dissatisfaction that paint a pretty unpleasant picture, which is pretty depressing if there's that much angst. 1 2 Quote

Irish Posted February 11 Posted February 11 What I just can't understand is how someone who is at an advanced level in coaching and who has been coaching for years and has educated assistants can be so hidebound and enamored with their "system" that not only are they resistant to change in face of unacceptable results but will stubbornly double down on the status quo. We saw that for years with Football Bubba and now Hocky Bubs just won't change anything either. This total lack of awareness from people who should know better is stunning. Clearly the college hockey world has passed Berry by and if he is here next year it will be a disaster. Everyone can see this but hi and Chaves. 1 2 Quote
