Johnny Five Posted April 4 Posted April 4 14u girls advance out of pool play with a 1-1-1 record. Play in the quarterfinals today. I think this is the first time a girls team has advance to the tourney part. A few ND Girls HS players, and a bunch that should be HS next year before the move lol.... 1 Quote

The 93 group fits the Jeff Panzer era of North teams. You are correct that they were too old for the 95 group. Perhaps 1 was north and 1 was south. Quote

The 14U team will be done tomorrow, as they cannot advance even if they pulled off the modern miracle on ice. MN Blue Ox at 14U has won 2 tight games and is in good shape to move on. SSM is undefeated at 14U and along with Little Caesars have secured #1 seeds in the Quarterfinals. The 13O Minnesota Lakers are 2-0 and have scored 14 goals in those 2 games. Nice to see Ryan Kesler lose to MN Blue Ox U14 That Belle Tire U14 AAA team was 1-47-0 (GF-GA) 27-558 That's a very very bad team. 3 Quote

Minot is going through a lot of turmoil with this decision and the media has barely covered it. Quote

Brim006 Posted April 17 Posted April 17 That's a tough situation due to the lop-sided numbers. It appears there are only 3 likely possibilities....with a pipe dream 4th. 1. They co-op and have to cut roughly 15 kids - seems like the worst option IMO due to NDHSH needing all the teams and kids they can get but is probably the most likely option at this point. 2. Keep North and South separate, and if South can find a goalie they field only a varsity team that runs a season similar to what Mayport does. 3. Keep North and South separate, but South taps out and South kids are allowed to join or try out for the North team. 4. They co-op but they create 2 North-South varsity teams and 2 North-South JV teams to maximize the 65 available kids, and to avoid having to cut players. Maybe they split the kids up evenly by some sort of hockey-only district line. Seems too far outside of the box and too messy for long term but would be cool to see something happen to avoid the EDC losing a team and kids having to be cut. Quote

Brim006 Posted April 17 Posted April 17 I just read a story about Grafton Park River area youth hockey numbers growing back to their historically strong water marks. They have 175 in youth hockey and see strong varsity+JV numbers for the foreseeable future. That's encouraging to see and hear, especially if you look at the steady population decline of that area of the state. Anyone know how hockey participation is doing in some of the other "smaller" schools/programs around the state? Bottineau+Rugby, HB, DL+Cando, Mayport, Jamestown+VC? It seems like HB has been hanging on by a thread for years now, and Mayport youth numbers look pretty thin, so I'm wondering if they will be able to continue fielding a varsity team or not. It would be great if Wahp would come back to ND, but I doubt that will happen due to having FAR more success playing in MN than in the EDC since they moved. Quote

It was a good article, it also point out the assumption of the numbers of sophomores, indicating 10 of the 15 could potentially still play bantams. If that was the case, and also acknowledging the Jr gold option in Fargo, a Co-op is much more likely of a resolution for a period of time. Quote

The numbers at the youth level exiting bantams and into these programs seem to indicate a "holding serve" level of participation going into next season, with a possibility for some of them to be more competitive regionally. Most are going to be in the net (-2/+2) player participation unless something drastic changes. In comparison to the declining numbers of some of the traditional "big city" programs due largely to demographic shifts. i.e South as discussed, but also in Bismarck with Bismarck High/St. Mary's and to a degree Century going into the next year or two as well..... and also like the Fargo Davies projections... large numbers at Legacy High. Combined numbers would be similar if not less than the Fargo North-South numbers it appears, with the major differences both Bis programs have goalie stables as opposed to the South situation, but the similarities are interesting. Fargo at least appears to be taking a balanced approach to the issue of participation vs competativeness Bismarck has unwaveringly sided on the opportunity side... .....and then there's Minot who has spinelessly caved to the competitive faction and invented numbers fuzzier than moldy bread to justify the capitulation.
