Agree that Ibrahim is the better player, but I think the problem is that between fouls and just getting tired, Ibrahim can generally only play about 25 minutes per game. With Demers out, or if he she became a full-time 4, Hurst would need to be the backup 5. Need to add another game-ready player for next season who can play the 5 and/or 4 in order for Ibrahim and Demers to play together IMO.

Nice job to beat St. Thomas. I just hope they can remain competitive against SDSU. They are a great team.

Has there ever been a true freshman women's player as talented and impactful as Schiller has been right out of the starting gate?
It's just amazing that as the freshman on the floor, she is who they turn to to have the ball in her hands when it's stressful and tight.

They really missed Demers today. She's the only one in the league who can defend against Brooklyn Meyer...if she can stay out of foul trouble.

Yeah thats for sure a UND Chaves thing.  But I think fans have not said that about our women's team. Mal should have been let go years ago

I wouldn’t be  surprised if extension is done and I have put my position on need to change coaches.  I don’t believe the program can progress to another level with Mallory as head coach. I also think that we have assistant head coach has abilities to coach this team to higher level performance but I don’t even know for sure he has all skills to coach at this level. I just want this program to return to where we were one best women’s basketball programs in upper Midwest. Chaves has difficult job now does he still believe his hire in Mallory is right decision but difference now he has his career online here because her past performance is not what he believes she can be if he renews her contract.  She is one of his hires not inherited like Bubba and so far other hires he has made he has terminated there tenures but now it’s higher valued sport of basketball where is more scrutinized. This is big decision coming forth for the university and also for Chaves.

I see three realistic possibilities, and none involves giving Mallory an extension:

1. Allow her to come back for the last year of her contract, with the understanding that UND will move on after next season unless there are major improvements, e.g. 20-plus wins and a top-three regular season finish in the conference;

2. Fire her, and name Hutter as interim coach for a year. If he does well, give him the job. If not, conduct a national search after next season;

3. Fire her, and conduct a national search now.

Yup. But I have to believe extending a coach with .396 winning percentage after five years is a line even he won't cross. The optics would be horrible.

I would guess he will bring her back under your stated conditions.  
I’m not commenting what I think we should do, only what I think will happen.
 

He will justify not doing a buyout based on player development of some of the younger players, the year end improvement, the players like her, she has improved her staff, and she has some good recruits committed. Primarily, it’s $$$.
