BarnWinterSportsEngelstad Posted April 2, 2020 Posted April 2, 2020 What will most likely be biggest concern in GF, aside from this virus: Water table rising Seepage Sump pump failure Possible sewer backups Storm drains My sump pump started pumping today. Quote

Sump pumps starting to open up in Grand Forks. Ground is still incredibly saturated so how much moisture in tomorrow's snow will be important. Had it been a rough end of winter/beginning of spring, it could have been ugly with everything else going on. 1 Quote

BarnWinterSportsEngelstad Posted April 2, 2020 Posted April 2, 2020 Sold a rental property today, not a good time to be a landlord with all that's going on. Had sump pump in another property start up an hour ago. Quote
Oxbow6 Posted April 3, 2020 Posted April 3, 2020 Freezing rain then heavy snow. Got at least 8" in the FM area. Will see a 2nd crest next week. Probably still under 30' though. Quote
Redneksioux Posted April 3, 2020 Posted April 3, 2020 I’ve always wondered why the bridges need to close when the water won’t breach them. Isn’t it our right as taxpayers to be able to cross the bridges? Quote

Isn’t it our right as taxpayers to be able to cross the bridges? Are you referring to the ones in GF? The bridges themselves may not be breached, but the approaches typically go under water, which is most likely why they close them. 4 Quote

NoiseInsideMyHead Posted April 4, 2020 Posted April 4, 2020 Anybody have a good link to a GF/EGF Red River flood cam? I think there used to be one at the NOAA page that was mounted on the Sorlie Bridge, but it may have been deactivated when the bridge was rehabbed. Quote

Didn't they used to have a camera on the GF County Court House facing the Red River? Quote

Sioux>Bison Posted April 5, 2020 Posted April 5, 2020 I thank drain tile for this ever year flood mess. Every field in the valley is drain tiles directly to a drainage ditch which is like a super highway for all the water in the valley to rush into the red river. 2 Quote

It hasn't been warm enough for the deep ground frost to lift yet. Most drainage tiles are still in the permafrost yet. My parents had to install sump pumps in GF because water was seeping in last fall They have turned those sumps back on, but it's mostly ice yet. 1 Quote

A lot of sump pumps are pumping water, mine starts up every 15 minutes. Quote
Goon Posted April 5, 2020 Posted April 5, 2020 I bought flood insurance for the first time in 17 years. I hope I don't have to use it. Quote

Luckily I noticed it early enough, as water was just starting to come out of the sump hole. 1 Quote

UND1983 Posted April 6, 2020 Posted April 6, 2020 My pump is going every 5-10 mins. I may need to swap it out over the summer to be safe for future, it's been working hard. Quote
