I don't know if he put in, but Caruso would be a good fit. His kids are out of the house and I don't know that UST has any immediate plans to move on from the PFL. It has to be tough going from the Athletic Department's top priority to an after-thought after UST decided to flagship hockey and basketball and build a new baseball/softball complex, while football mires in a non-scholarship league in the most fertile recruiting area in the MVFC. Caruso is a winner and familiar with the culture of the MVFC (though he coached at NDSU/USD pre-MVFC), and is an excellent recruiter. That said, he's extremely comfortable in St. Paul, his job couldn't be more secure, and his wife has been battling some health issues. Guessing he's not going anywhere. 2 Quote

I’m hopeful our AD reached out, sold him on it and urged him to apply. At least I think that’s what AD’s typically do. Was unaware that his wife’s health challenges were ongoing. Quote

Caruso has great passion, great intensity, a little PJ Flecky for some people's taste, but the results speak for themselves. I just think Drake and Butler raised their level when Caruso came in and won the league with mostly D3 guys. Also, the issue with the PFL is your best players have one foot out the door. Their non-conference games against the Big Sky/MVFC are basically auditions for scholarships elsewhere. You're fighting over players with the NSIC. 2 Quote

Siouxperfan7 Posted December 6, 2024 Posted December 6, 2024 I am really thinking its going to be Fruechte. And that would be a bad thing. Still gives us a coach that wasn't a former player or coach (I mean technically he coached a year, but he just got here. Still an outsider). Also, likes saves the exodus of players hitting the portal. Plus, the current players seem to like him. If its someone else, that will be fine. But I think Fruechte is the front runner. Quote

Taking way to long to be fruechte unless he has the same agent when he was a pro and made Chavez roll his pants up yoo Quote
Sioux27 Posted December 6, 2024 Posted December 6, 2024 I'm heading out to the ski hill for the rest of the day. I'll make sure my fellow ski patrollers are on the lookout for anybody wearing green in groups of two or more. I'll also be in some of the lift lines with my facial recognition app. I also said to alert me if they see anybody skiing in a suit and tie. Chaves is sneaky but I'm one step ahead of him. 1 Quote

How deep is Fruechte's rolodex? By my count he would need to bring in at least 5-6 assistant coaches to fill out the staff. No way he can keep the status quo...especially on defensive side of the ball. Quote
