Who would UND hire?

We have some key recruits and some key people we do not want to lose. I see the OC as an interim an endorsement of him keeping his job and getting an upgrade at DC since Schwenzie was the more tenured coach regardless of who is hired. It shows me also they are hopefully looking for a defensive minded coaching staff as the current staff’s defense was just not good enough. 
 

I like proven culture guys. The SDSU / NDSU people in the chat here are all on my list. We talk culture here, those places live it. We need people that know it & bring that here up to and including recruiting.
 

I heard that the visit experience at UND is exactly where we stand in regards to current standings with other DKota schools. 4th best at best. This direct from a recruit parent who had a kid make visits to several.   Positives here were the facilities and school was nice. The biggest negative was the amount of care by the staff to the visitors. Involvement, or lack there of, by coaches. They felt more wanted and they had more activities and the programs just seemed more organized and next level. We want to win, we need to win there first.

Say it is Fruechte - he hits quite a few of the criteria that keeps getting mentioned:  young (33), no long standing ties to UND (been a coordinator one season), would have connections to several places and varying levels (D2, FCS, FBS, and NFL) , all while knowing the traditional recruiting footprint. Not saying he’s my guy, but it doesn’t rub me the wrong way.

Yeah you don't really need an "temporary head coach" for a couple weeks in the off-season when Bubba is still working for the university.

Except you know with 100% certainty Bubba will not be on the coaching staff next year. Having him act as head coach like they said originally made no sense. This actually does.

Agreed. Here’s my thing, the only name that was mentioned in Miller’s article that I would be genuinely excited for is Johanes. The others to varying degrees I have reservations about. Ideally, Johanes is hired and keeps Freuchte as OC. I would be fine with Schmidt x Freuchte. Outside of that? Think I’d actually be most excited for Freuchte as HC. I absolutely would rather have Freuchte > Baldwin.

Schmidt is controversial, as again, he has not been a collegiate head coach and he has not had championship-level success as a defensive coordinator. DeBoer’s opinion was to have him be a special teams coordinator and a position coach; he had to leave DeBoer’s staff to get another DC opportunity. 
 

My gut feeling is that Schmidt gets the job and Fruechte gets to stay as offensive coordinator. That likely will mean minimal overall change for UND, and we are left with the same cultural limitations, but we will see … 

Would prefer someone with head coaching success, such as Baldwin or Bolte. 
 

Despite saying we should go with the best candidate, many fans, as evidenced by opinions on here, want to simply hire someone they’re familiar with. This will limit the ceiling of the program.

Earlier today Schmidt had not been contacted by UND. That’s why I said if Chaves had made his decision, it wouldn’t be Schmidt and I thought probably Baldwin. I don’t know if Chaves has someone lined up or not. If not I think Schmidt deserves consideration along with others. However we don’t know who would apply.

Actually you do.  Someone needs to make sure end of season meetings take place and all recruits are contacted to try to get commits signed Wednesday . It’s important someone is in charge of all of that.

Press conference tomorrow with Fruechte, Bubba, and Chave at 1.

Anything "not major" is usually announced via press release not press conference.

Be odd to have a press conference to repeat what they released today?
