LeaveNoDoubt Posted September 1, 2017 Posted September 1, 2017 Who said anything about crowning them natty champs?? In the quote you highlated "Utah>Iowa>Iowa state" that's the conversation. Typical bizen guy making up words and stories to make your opinion sound better. Hold up some more "bring on bama" signs

Without letting the season play out any comments like the one I quoted above are strictly self serving and only made to make the OP feel better about a loss. Maybe Utah is a top 10 team, maybe they don't win another game this year. Beating an FCS team by 3 scores isn't proof of anything, can we agree on that? Let the season play out at least a little before saying that Utah team is the best FBS team either NDSU or UND has ever played and would beat the best FCS team of all time(arguably). Fair? Yet when NDSU has beat an FBS team early on in a season they constantly use that FBS team's accomplishments from the previous season to gloat about and compare to. They completely ignore the fact that it's an entirely different team from the year before. Worse yet, they then continue to tack on anyone else the said team beats later on in the season as someone they're better than as well. Any legitimate football follower knows certain teams match up much differently to different opponents. And it's mind boggling how much one team can evolve throughout the season. Sometimes it can be a completely different team by the end of the year. Comparing scores is NDSU's forte. #BringOnBama

BarnWinterSportsEngelstad Posted September 1, 2017 Posted September 1, 2017 Utah is a very good team and it was a great opportunity for UND. Hats off to all the Utes fans, win a bunch.

Yes, Studs was nailed on the play. My continuing point-he locked in to his right and with the pressure tossed it to that side and it could have been picked off.
SiouxHawk17 Posted September 1, 2017 Posted September 1, 2017 I think my biggest takeaway from the game was Studsrud. I thought he played a damn good game. He can sling the ball while rolling out of the pocket. His pocket presence was great. Sensed pressure, and adjusted accordingly. The moment did not seem too big for him. 3

But his arm put UND in the position to have Harris INT be the difference. UND was left for dead and Studs arm brought them back in that game. im not saying the offense should revolve around him, we are a running team, but Rudy could/should definitely open the playbook a bit and take some chances. My concern is come playoff time and EVERY team KNOWS we are a running team and they put 8-9 in a box and FORCE Studs to be the guy. That's the issue. Last night, I and about 15 others at a local bar in town, saw 9 in the box; Studs looks like he may audible as he turns to his RB's. Then takes the snap and HANDS off to one of them. Maybe he doesn't have audible rights, but teams are going to work hard to make him beat them. I'm not positive he can...and I don't like seeing the WR/TE's continue to drop passes. We win the playoff game if they make catches but he needs to make the passes too.

Did you see Utah's D-line play? Utah had 1 safety and 1 corner that were lights out, too. I feel the only way some will be happy with Studsrud is if he throws a touchdown pass blind folded, just to prove he isn't locked on a WR. 2 9

Studsrud is a Stud... great scrambling and extending the play even when he had to throw it away instead of getting sacked. Only issues, I saw for you guys, was some over pursuit on some defensive plays. Nice kicker and I'm sure you won't face a front 7 like us again so your run game should be fine.

We don't have the kind of hogs you need to stop your front seven. I feel good about our d-line, they had some success against you guys so that should translate well to FCS play.

The team doesn't switch its game plan no matter who they are playing. Run the ball. Grind down the clock. and when playing a FBS team hope the defense "makes a play." 12 hours ago, UofUUtes said: Listen, I tried to tell Maddogg (or whatever the hell his name is) that you wouldn't run on Utah. You would not wear them down. You would not grind things out. The QB would have to beat Utah, and he isn't (plus your receivers) good enough to do that. Tried to tell everyone (in a nice way) that what UND does plays right into the Utah defense. 5 hours ago, Oxbow6 said: My comment was definitely not an indictment on him. (Studsrud) IMO he rarely gets enough opportunities early in games, like last night, to be a difference maker. I took from a couple guys their thoughts. It was clear heading into this game a 'typical' game plan for the UND offense probably wasn't going to work. So why did we do it? I'm not sure. Maybe I'm just a little less risk adverse than the staff. We even had UofUUtes tell us we couldn't run on Utah, right to our face, we didn't listen. I kinda disagree with UofUUtes that we couldn't throw on Utah, cause 1. we did, and 2. we pass protected damn well. Just imagine, UND gets an interception on Utah's 1st drive of the game, which happened. UND offense Play #1, play action pass to the speedster Izzy over the top for a TD, and schematically the rest of the game we are mentally prepared to run a little different game against Utah. What a difference that would of made!! My take away is - UND is probably OK against the remaining regular season running a 'typical' offensive game plan. We will not see that type of D-line again. But say a team like Montana, or NDSU in the play-offs has our run game stopped, are we going to figure it out or just play to keep the game respectable, and that's my biggest issue with the game last night. 1 8

UND-1 Posted September 1, 2017 Posted September 1, 2017 UND threw the ball 14 times in the first half. UND threw the ball 17 times in the second half.
